The Coronation Was Watched By Many Students and Alumni. The Cumberland High School Band sponsored the i948 Homecoming under the direction ot J. P. Ander- son 'and Committees. The highlight ot the evening was the crowning ot Queen Clarice Benson by Football Captain Duane Matye. The queen and her attendants were pre- sented tlowers by the C Club. Music tor the eve- ning was furnished by Bill Brahm's orchestra trom Superior. Many students tor both Cumberland and Bloomer attended the crowning and the dance. The Homecoming opened with the traditional Snake Dance and the band marching down town. The treshmen furnished the wood tor the bontire. The Cumberland Beavers played the unbeaten Bloomer Blackhawks in an exciting game, the Blackhawks com- ing out on top 28-I2. The gym was beautitully decorated with red and white streamers extending trom the doors to the throne and trom the baskets' to goal-poles built up at one end ot the gym. Along the walls were numerous tootballs with the nicknames ot the Bloomer and the Cumberland players. The punch stand was in the torm ot a large tootball which was placed in one corner ot the gym. The various committee heads were as tollows: Dec- oration, Mary Douglas: Parade, Delores Perry: Re- treshment and advertisement, Mary Hilton: and Ticket Sales, Karen Lerdall.
