The records show that he came to Culver as Commandant in 1897, and became Superintendent in 1910 serving until his retirement in 1939. Obviously. he was a great teacher and soldier and the architect of many of the traditions of Culver that we came to know so well. In recognition of his leadership and in their desire for Culver, hundreds have contributed generously, making possible this project. Eugene C. Eppley, an honor graduate of the Class of 1901 and a member of the Board of Directors of The Culver Educational Foundation. in one of the largest gifts in the field of secondary education, con- st' Kits CICNILLIAT Memorial, center is flanked by Eppley Hall of Humanities, left. and Eppley Hall of Science, right. CONSTRUCTION tributed 81,250,000 through the Eppley Foundation making possible the construction of both the 22-room. L-shaped Hall of Science and its companion, the Hall of Humanities. VVith an active Culver interest dating back more than five decades the nationally prominent hotel executive, joined by hundreds of fellow alumni and friends, have contributed to Culver's physical development in a manner that will be felt for years. ll? If F REMEMBER the academic year? - strug- gling with language, rushing to get that theme in on time, and that old familiar question, Have you studied for the test this morning? Somedays we were exultant after doing well on a physics quiz, and often the opposite was true. More important, however, was the faculty - those who led, those who advised, and those who taught. Some were serious, some humorous, and some sarcastic, but they all had one quality in common - the desire to help us, the cadets. The classes were like the teachers in that each had a character of its own, but in all was the spirit of the search for knowledge.
