Another unusual and interesting point in this Department's favor is the sustained high quality of the instruction. ln an atomic age individual endeavors in research are encouraged, and some of our experimenta- tion has been extremely individual! l Major Benner seems very earnest about what-- ever it is he is doing. Metcalfe, as usual, seems , to find something amusing in the situation.

There Are More Things in Under the capable leadership of Col Mather, many patient men guide us to a better understanding of English. Whether it is a question of where to place a comma or the interpretation of a passage from HAMLET, there is always willing and under- standing help available. Several years ago the English Depart- ment initiated an honors section for outstanding First classmen. These groups frequently make it possible for the better student to step ahead in college. Here Col. Edgell emphasizes some of the finer grammatical points. Col. Hodgkin and his students seem equally absorbed by their subject.

Hinkson and Fletemeyer look busy-temporarily at least! Few of us have not looked forward to the day when the Science Department could boast ot elevator service. ln the roof top laboratories of Main Barrack, the white stripers explored the mysteries of mechanics, heat, sound and electricity, while second classmen labored to comprehend atomic structure, molecular theory and valance.
