Foreign Language Department You can't find a better language teach- ing staff than the one at Culver. Almost every instructor in the department is quali- fied to teach three or more languages. With Colonel Marshal as department chairman, these instructors have done a spectacular job of presenting their language or lan- guages. Even those cadets who claim that English is enough language for anyone soon discover themselves beginning to grasp parts of Himmel, Meine Schuhe! UL'- Homme qui dormit cent ans, or Zalacain. Some cadets even find themselves reading parts of Cicero. Not only are the courses designed to give a cadet the best possible understanding of the language, but they also are aimed at giving students a good idea of the customs and feelings of foreign people. After a summer s vacation M lor Patch s Spanish students ex perience some difficulty in tak ing up where they left off. 20 Swimming coach and athletic director Walaitis doubles in the brass of the rolling German language. The immense difficulty :mf German there are few who will deny, but Wally made it at least as easy as diving from the high board.

X nunfmxmc YO B Conrmfs counter cum An mrizx D GENERAL STORE Relaxing in Major Edgell's newly refurbished quarters, Williams and Roach report on their summer s activities. The segment of B Company living in the North Lodge at the time made the most of the opportunity to decorate their bar- racks for Homecoming Z2 company B The boys of B came back in September to find carpenters and painters refurbish- ing Argonne, so the company took turns in the North Lodge, enjoying the luxuries of hotel life. Just before Christmas they were united in a completely remodeled barrack. Under the leadership of Greer and Major Edgell, B Company achieved a fine record in cadet activities. In football, B copped five letters in May, Cross, Hamady, Galvin, and Hoffman. B showed they were a much im- proved company in athletics as they swept to Regimentals in soccer and a third place in crew. Cross, Scopelitis, and Winkeljohn spearheaded the varsity basketball team, while Roach and Murray swam. May, Greg- ory, and Sites grappled on the varsity mats. Dillon, Galvin, and Manley rowed for the varsity crew, with Sites calling the stroke, as Holmes, Glover, and Fry burned up the track. In outside activities, Greer and Cross were Sports Editors of the Vedette. Greer did an excellent job as Editor of the Quill, while Cross edited this book. Together they put out a fine Quarterback with the help of Schoger and Scopelitis. All and all, B Com- pany stood with the best this year.
