A new year!! A new group!! Adjustments . . . opinions . . . freedom ... all floating through the halls. The great relief of being out of CCJHS and the agony of the last tough year for the seniors. Juniors are just “stuck in the middle!” Most sophomores admit they like the high school better than the junior high, as they have more freedom and privileges, such as being able to go outside and having a smoking lounge to use. Some, on the other hand, such as Greg Hackley, sum up the situation with one word, “GIRLS!” Some things never do change. Juniors kind of “go with the flow”, as they already have become used to the high school and they still have another year of books, square pizza, and hearing the beeper go off in the library. This doesn’t upset them, though, since they know they have another year to go bonkers and get wild. Like seniors all over, the seniors at CCHS all seem to agree on the fact that they will miss their friends when they graduate. Still, they have unique things that they will miss too, such as lunch, “Papa Welchkin”, and as Pat Merewether comment¬ ed, “I will miss the serious things of high school life, such as jumping into mud ouddles at football practice.” (1) While showing off the new $21,000 band uniforms given to them by the Band Boosters, Mike McPhillips and Fred Welland watch intently as the Blue Devils win the first game of the season thirteen to six against Madison. (2) Tammy Ay- lor discoveres making the yearbook isn’t as easy as expected, as she tries to find an idea for a layout in the ' 79 Colonnade. (3) Mr. Dill reads to his class from Super Pick¬ le” on Grubb Day during Spirit Week. (4) Being a leader in a Cross Country meet is hard work. Eddy Lyons proves this as he pushes to keep his usual position of being in the top two finishing runners. 13

People In Motion (1) Practicing on a gloomy day doesn ' t put a damper on the spirits of teammates Terry Whitesell, Au¬ brey Thacker, Eddy Lyons, Scott Ramey and Brian Updike as they model what they think the new fall line of warm-up suits should be for the Cross Country runners. (2) Dur¬ ing their lunch break, Susan Hen¬ drix, Cathy Rice and Donna Cooper show off different syles of clothing appearing in the high school this year. (3) “Way to go Devils!!!” Stephanie Wolfrey says at the girls make-up basketball game against JM. (4) Before the Albemarle game, Cheryl O’Bannon puts some “oomph” into her cheer as she and Jeanette Pelan clown around.

Those runner’s times are important, and Maria Ce- lello gives her total concentration to recording scores for the Cross-Country team. Players listen carefully to Coach Carter ' s instructions for strategy in the game against JM. The Devilettes went on to victory in this game. Pam Dinkins studies her scoresheet carefully as she busily records girl’s basketball scores. One of the many things Martha Robson does to make life easier for the girl ' s basketball team is to provide cold drinks. 14
