CLASS HISTORY Just four years ago, in 193 6 it was, we entered high school. ' X ' hat a green bunch of freshmen we were and how impressed with our own importance. There were so many of us that it took three rooms under Mr. Hudgins, Mr. Shotwell, .and Mr. Tight to contain us. That was the t ear the standard class ring was selected, the point system was introduced, the five period day began, and the library was moved to study hall, ' ' e organized with Becky” as president, and while we didn’t do much we rushed around enough to satisfy the most critical. September, 1937, found our group reunited in the sophomore rooms under the guidance of Mrs. Hudson and Mr. Hudgins. The Latin classes greatly missed Mrs. Reams but very soon grew to appreciate her successor. Miss Gentile. During our second year in high school the student government was organized, C. H. S. was well represented at Richmond music festival, and Orchids for Marie” won the play contest at Orange. Our joy knew no bounds when we won the Thespian play contest. Looking back we decided that it had been rather a good year. Juniors! and already we could see our goal gleaming far ahead. What a year! C. H. S. won the class C championship of Eastern Division in football, representatives attended the District Hi-Y Conference at ' X’arrenton, our track team won the class C title in the meet at Charlottesville, and about thirty of the Civics IV group visited Vi’ashington. V ' e juniors getting more serious went to work and gave the Seniors a banquet, which was enjoyed by all. In this project and our lesser ones we were aided by our sponsors. Miss Garlick and Miss Johns, a new addition to the faculty. Such a full year naturally went swiftly and soon our Junior days were over. Here we were Seniors at last and we didn’t feel any more dignified and important than we had as freshmen — perhaps less, e didn’t have much time to think about that though for under Miss Winn’s sponsorship we soon organized and went to work to achieve the most we could in our Senior year. Vi’infree was elected president, and our first project was a picnic to welcome the freshmen into high school. How proud we were to be the first Seniors with privilege of marching into the auditorium and didn’t the classes envy us? Our last year at C. H. S. passed and now the end is incredibly near. Believe it or not we are a little saddened at the approach of the long awaited moment. ' X’e’ll miss those whom we are leaving behind, but we won’t forget you, you, you, and you. — Myrtle Jenkins.
