lhe ast seems very real at Cullowhee. Traditions are strong nere. They reach back to the Indian Civilization which once existed in this valley andto the sturdy men who brought their families with them and settled here. They are interwoven with the memories of those who first dreamed a dreamofa school because they had faith that if men should know the truth, the truth would make them free. Those traditions grew as what was essentially a high school developed into a college and that in turn helped Cullowhee High, as we know it, to become a feality. What are some of them? ---'the old Indian mound, winning ball teams, report cards, long lunch lines. These are traditions, but there are larger ones by far - honor, justice, truth, loyalty, pride in one's past, hope for One 2 Suture. For the future does offer hope - and that of our school is symbolized by the new building going up across Cullowhee Creek. Greater opportunities, widening horizons will come as we move - but these are things to come. And this is the present. So.it is that with grateful appreciation for the gifts of the past and great anticipation of the gains of the future, we still focus our attention on the school year 1962- 1963, for this is Vee Present.
