Part of the Oklahoma Territory was transplanted in the Cudahy Senior High Auditorium November 10,11, and 12. Curly comes a’courtin Laurey early one beautiful morning to in- vite her to the Box Social. Jud, her hired hand, is jealous of all the attention Curly is paying to Laurey. Ado Annie gits all shaky from horn to hoof because of the attentions of two purty-talkin’ men, Ali Hakim and Will Parker, and has to confide in Laurey since she “cain’t say no...to either of them. Will, her promised feller, jist came home from Kansas City where he won a steer roping contest. He was impressed by everything being up-to-date in Kansas City, which includes the beautiful dancing girls. The peddler sells Laurev a bottle of Egyptian smelling salts and Ado Annie thoughts of the hotel at Claremore, but it’s all fiddlesticks to Aunt Eller. Meanwhile, at Jud’s Smokehouse, Curly stops in to give him a piece of his mind. Jud has lost hope and realizes all his life amounts to is being stuck down in a lousy stinkhole. Under the effects of the Egyptian smelling salts, Laurey begins to dream and see illusions of her wedding. As it continues, it turns in- to a nightmare when Jud kills Curly. All the farmers and cowmen gather and listen to Andrew Carnes. He feels they should git along and be friends. Ironically a fight breaks out. With a little help from her shotgun. Aunt Eller settles the dispute. Will wants to marry Ado, but her Paw won’t let him un- til he gits $50 cash. He had prize money from the steer roping con- test but he didn’t exactly keep it, he spent it on presents for Annie. So Will strikes up a deaf with Ali to buy these presents so he has the cash. Now that Laurey has refused to go with Curly to the Box Social, he invites giddy Gertie Cummings. Laurey. for obvious reasons, doesn’t take much of a liking to her. It’s the Box Social. All the womern-folk have brought their purty lunch hampers. Aunt Eller has auctioned off all the hampers 'cept Laurey’s and Annie’s. Ali ends up with Annie’s hamper and a three-day bellyache. Will gits Annie. When bids for Laurey’s hamper begin, Jud steps in and puts up his life savings for it. It’s go- ing — going — but not quite gone when Curly finally shows up to save the day. To sum up the rest, Gertie ends up as ‘‘the peddler’s bride,” Will and Annie set the date, poor Jud is daid, Oklahoma is O.K., and Curly finally marries Laurey, YEOW! 27
