There were Sophomore boys who helped to take care of the sport division, and also many of our class members participated in Chorus, F.H.A., F.F.A., and Band. This year should be very interesting for us because as Juniors, we are now upperclassmen. Our class officers are: President, Tom Hopkins, ViceAPresident, Gene McConkey, Secretary, Pat Lescallett, Treasurer, Gene Miller, Student4Council members, Dorothy Thomson and Jerry McCaughey. Our Junior Class Play, lnner Willy, under the direction of Mrs, Helen Skean, was a great success. Also the class is working very hard to make the Prom an outstanding occasion. Another important event this year was ordering of our class rings. We received third prize on our Homecoming Float. Elda Mitchell was our class queen. Now, above all other things, we are looking forward to being Seniors. Although lacking in height, the Cardinals' aggressiveness and superior speed enabled them to compile a I9-8 record. After losing two of their first three games, the Cardinals proceeded to win eleven of the next twelve games they played in. In compiling their fine record the Cardinals also tied for first place with Lewistown in the Olympic Conference. The Cardinals averaged about 65 points per game and compiled an amazing free throw percentage of over 70 per cent as a team. Seven Seniors are graduating from this year's squad, but much is expected for the next few years, as three regulars and several promising Sophomores and Juniors are back. Graduating are: James Sharpe, Scott Clifford, Jeff Miller, Ken McCloskey, Bill Oliver, Dee Williams, and Captain Jim McConkey. Jim McConkey set a new scoring record for the school with a 24.55 average for the 27 games in which he netted 663 points. Members returning for next year are: Gene Mc- Conkey, Tom Hopkins, Don Clayberg, Gary Kee- fauver, Ken Runyan, Kleo Torrance, and several promising freshmen and sophomore players. The music seems to be coming from the door directly at the top of the stairs, shall we enter? There is Mr. Brashear with baton in hand, di- recting a roomful of eager musicians. This year, like the ones in the past, has been quite a busy one for the band members, who enioy their music so well. The duties of the band fell on the capable shoulders of the following officers who ably as- sisted Mr. Brashear: Clarabel Churchill, President, Helen Vander Hamm, Vice-President, Jane Ellen Clayberg, Secretary-Treasurer, Paula Heller and Helen Porter, Librarians. This was the first band officers ever to be elected. Another first was the addition of gray trousers to our new band uni- forms, a great asset to the appearance of a fine band. Concerts were presented in the park during the summer months and the band gave a public concert at the annual Corn Show in the late fall. It also participated in a contest at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield, bringing home a first rating and a Governor's Trophy. During football season it was a thrill to watch the fast stepping marching bancl form the various formations and signs of visiting schools. This same marching band led our own homecoming parade and also entered in the Western College homecoming parade. Peppy marches added much to the basketball games and spurred the team on to many victories. The Fulton County Band Festival was held in the Alice Ingersoll Gymnasium in Canton on February 16. Cuba made a fine showing with Silver Springs Overture. The highlight of the band's full year was con- test. A day we had looked forward to with ex- pectation and wonder. Several ensembles and solos were performed and the contestants all rated high. Our band has indeed added to our school life and spirit with the honors it has brought us. la'-1 X4 STUDENT COUNCIL bv 'CI' 12 ' A TOP ROW Jeanette Ellts Dorothy Thomson Danny Wald Beverly Putman CENTER ROW Jerry McCaughey Jett Maller Tom Hopkms Jam Mitchell BOTTOM ROW Scott Clifford Jean Harper Secretary Treasurer James McConkey President Sharon McConkey Vice President Mr Taylor Advisor ANNUAL STAFF STANDING RonmeBushop Art Edntor James McConkey Sport Edltor Mr Davus Sponsor Helen Vander Hamm Photography Edutor Dorothy Thomson Junuor Edntor SEATED Mickey Morgan Subscription Editor Jean Harper Advertlsmg Edutor Jane Ellen Clay berg Editor Luanne Landls Feature Edntor Martha Orwag Asststant Editor L 2 gr 5 G r . 1 2 I I I ' 2 I I I ' 5 1 I ' I I 1 ' I - I - ' 1 2 1 I - 1 I , 5 , , - 1 J 1 i ' I i , 5 , . Among the sports played were volleyball, ping pong, badminton horseshoe basketball touch football field and ice hockey The boys who were not out for athletics were the only ones who could attend the classes while on the other hand almost every girl in school went to physical ecl Besides boys and girls separate gym classes they have mixed P. Mr. Tangman, our new boys' teacher, is also the grade school coach. Mrs. Kellogg left us to be with her husband and was replaced by Mrs Kanne who took over her duties by teaching three upper grades in Flatt and 7th and 8th in Cuba and Smithfield and high school gurls So you can see that it has been a very busy year in this department for both teachers and students FIRST ROW Harold McMullen Jerry Coulter Jumor Haynes Clyde Von Ach Ivan Hilton Jr Jack Plotts John McNeil Larry Ashwood Kenneth Runyan and Don Claybe g SECOND ROW Coach Lemon Martha Orwig Evelyn Beaurd Patsy Strode Helen Porter Sandra Steven son Lila Laird Elda Mitchell Dixie Taylor Jeanette Ellis Wilma Engl: h Juanita Beyhmer Bridget O Lam Carol Mae Kelme Mary Williamson Pawnee Ford Cha lotte Weaver and Marne Keuhn I 1 1 I .
