Joel and Sarah were both educated in public and missionary schools in Kenya. Afterwards, Sarah entered teacher training school and became qualified to teach the elementary grades there. Joel studied in Bible school and became a chaplain at the nearby hospital. Joel and Sarah married, and through their friendship with the Campbel1's fnow Cuba residents who were missionary workers in Kenya at that timey were able to come to the United States. Seeking further education the Kendy's became students here. After finishing college they plan to return to Kenya to help educate and aid their country. In this under- taking rhe student body of Cuba Central School wishes them success. f-f f f-ww. wwf-:fra :ww f -:wr mf- QUE397725:f35i35E??X1'92Q537f5f7Tl5 'T 555'8gi95VEffi' 'Aff29Qli9gf5YllQi?ifi7:'?l'If-it' 5f-f'?'ifZ'55:iz,wil?QjiLSfi1.'f'Ss?QfjU's TGV'i'Zi:5Q3k,li,,'l ' Y I ' ' f f Y H L7 ' i 1554. The Yorker Club The Yorker Club is a Junior Historical Association. In the spring of 1942 the New York State Board of Regents de- cided the history of New York should be taught at the seventh grade level. The New York State Historical Association at Cooperstown decided to place its resources at the disposal of teachers and students throughout the state. To do this, it opened its membership to students in New York's junior and senior high schools. Using as their motto History Can Be r Fun, local Yorker Clubs were established. I The Seneca Oil Springs Chapter, under the supervision of Miss Elizabeth Edwards, was formed around the club proj- ect HELLO, CUBA, an audio - visual story of a family becoming acquainted with Cuba. a Last summer, the club held a candy sale which was very successful. With the profits, they were able to visit the Fenimore House, the Farmer's Museum, the Woodland Museum, and the Baseball Hall of Fame, all in Cooperstown. The club also presented a program for the Cuba Historical Association, which is our adult counterpart. Earlier this year, they sponsored a contest to choose a design for the Historical Association's seal. The design chosen consisted of at picture on birch bark of an Indian kneeling and dipping oil out of the Seneca Oil Spring. The present officers are Ace Abbott - President, Robin Taylor - Secretary, Judy Davis - Treasurer, Lyn Bly - His- torian, and James Van Guilder - Reporter. J ELE VEN TH President - K. Earl Stellrecht, Denny Cooper and Dave Cradduck received severe injuries and were lost for the season. A minor rebuilding job was performed 1n mid-season, and then, toward the end of the season, the team picked up three straight wins. It would be hard to name any one outstanding player on this year's team. Every game someone else seem ed to do the job. After careful consideration, John Moses and Alvin Dean were saluted as All-Stars for Cuba E Basketball The varsity basketball team started the year off slowly, but close wins over Scio, Bolivar, and Andover were recorded as the team began to show more promise with each game. As this book went to press, the team was looking forward to the second half of the schedule, knowing they were ready to come on strong down the stretch. Lost through graduation will be Tom Arzberger, Dan Cooper, Russ Nunamaker, John Rinker, Steve Robertson, and Earl Stellrecht. Wrestling This year the wrestling team finished the season with a record of 6-4-1. Two of the meets with second place Fillmore, one that we lost 23 - 18, and the other we tied 20 - 20, determined our third place finish. Three of our wrestlers won county championships. Joel Vanik with a record of 10 - 1 won the 130 lb. class, Curt Ham- ilton with a record of 9 - 1 - 1 won the 148lb. class, and John Lawton, who showed a marked improvement toward the end of the season, won the 157 lb. class with a record of 4 - 4. A11 three of these winners lost in the bi-county meet to close out a successful year of wrestling for the Cuba Greyhounds. Baseball Cuba won five of seven league contests last spring, and that was good enough for a second place tie. ln the Sec- tion V play-offs the Greyhounds went down to defeat to Arkport 2-1. Steve Colburn pitched a no -hit, no-run game against Hinsdale to open the season. Another highlight of the season was the five run rally in the last half of the last inning that nipped Fillmore 7-6 in an important contest. The leading hitter was Karl Lang with a . 500 batting average. Most of last year's team are returning this spring and could very well give the Greyhounds a winning season. Track and Field The track team finished fourth in the county track meet in 1966. Joel Vanik, Kirk Scribner, and Dave Cradduck were the outstanding performers on the team. Joel won the county 880 race with a 2:14:5 time. Dave finished second in the 220 yard dash. Kirk set the school record in the broad jump ord in the triple jump by going 40' l1 . All three boys participated in the sectional meet.. Kirk, the only one able to place, finished second with a triple jump of 42' 7 . with a leap of 20' 1 114- .
