We have passed through many doors during our thirteen years at Cuba. Now we will encoun- ter many new experiences and opportunities which lie beyond these doors. We hope that future students gain as much knowledge and have as enjoyable time behind these doors as we did. Dedication MR. CHARLES M. WILLIAMS In appreciation for the service which he so willingly rendered, we the class of 1963 dedicate this edition of the Gargoyle to Mr. Charles Williams. Throughout our last three years at Cuba Central School we have benefited from his leadership as advisor both to our class and the Gargoyle staff. Contents AD MIN IS TRATION . GRADES . The opening of each educational door has, in some way, added to life's experiences and your accumulation of learning. May each of you members of the Class of 1963 be directed to open the right door now- that door which will give to you the best in higher education according to your abilities and best interests: and which may further pre- pare you better to accept your place as partic- ipating citizens and leaders in your community. Because of their willingness to help us and their patience with us, we have at last made it to the twelfth grade and will soon leave Cuba Central. We will always remember our teachers for their sincere devotion to the teach- ing profession. We have tried to capture a few of our teach- ers during a school day in the following pictures. The Safety Patrol, under the leadership of Mrs. Campbell, has helped to promote the safety and the welfare of -all students. These young students have braved the below Oo weather in order to direct students across the school intersection. The annual Christmas Concert featured the Erimary and Grade Choirs, which consist of students from the grades. To add to the delight of the Concert, Miss Michele Miller, a third grader, played a solo on the piano and then accompanied all the choirs in a grand finale. We wish to congratulate the younger students of Cuba Central School for their fine display of school spirit which they have shown this year. . ' ' .J lx W ,g fx ,r , Y We're next in the Concert! The boys were working under Mr. Cesari, a new coach to our system. lt's hard to build a winning team the first year outg but he sure had those boys in shape. Putting this year aside, he has 30 of the present 36 coming back, giving him something to work with. For medical reasons, Herb Rogers was forced to leave the team at mid- seasong and graduation will take the following seniors: Doug Moses, Ernie Wadsworth, Bob Sheldon, John Spear, Norm Place and Steve Morris. Come on, come on, who's got the ball. And this, ladies, is the boys' locker room. Track TOP ROW, Left to Right: B. Warren, N. Place, R. Kottwitz, D. Williams, J. Cooper, T. Truby, J. Luckey, S. Morris, Coach Kincaid. SECOND ROW: D. Kauffman, T. Cole, G. Trask, T. Frungillo, D. Moses, D. Briggs, S. Holmes, H. Mountain. THIRD ROW: D. Bosworth, J. Steen, W. Wisniewski L. Densmore, J. Lee, R. Sheldon. The track team distinguished itself with several wins last year. With many of the better men returning they should improve their record next year. We have seven Seniors returning to the team. Any time now Tom. Not today Doug. Varsity Basketball The 1962-63 Basketball Team was expected to have a very good year. Well into the second -half, the team has lost only one league game, which was to Alfred -Almond. If the team keeps up its steady pace, they should be eligible for sectional playoff competition. The team will lose five Seniors this year. unior Varsity The Junior Varsity of Cuba Central is rather disappointed in their 1962-63 record. Despite the losses, Coach Brown is displaying a lot of young talent and preparing the boys for varsity years. Get In there and fight, Herb! He's going to beat You Tom. Most Valuable Player Award. Portville T ournarnent. Catch it Kincaid! Get the ball, Crow. Baseball The 1962 Baseball Team had a very satisfactory year, losing only three games, one of which was a quarter final. Losing only two Seniors last year should bring another good year to Coach Harbeck. just hang on to the bat. Wrestle! Now listen here fellas! Wrestling Coach Cesari does consider the season successfulg in that it is the first year, the new sport was ac- cepted by the community, the team is young, and the boys are putting forth all their effort. The more successful wrestlers this year were: Tom Feuchter, Fran Davis, Roger Taylor, Jim Korka and Terry Stadler.
