Who would have guessed that the mighty Semors of today were the shy Freshmen of 1944? How we envied upper classmen, and stood by they strode magmficently around the corridors of Cuba Central In fact, so great was our timidxty that it was fully two years before we awoke to the round of lugh school actxvities necessary to earning money for that coveted Sen1or Trip However, when we finally felt the prick of ambltion, no t1me was wasted Our f1rst efforts resulted in the creation of Hermie a super pig bank By pltting the two Junior homerooms agaxnst each other ln a race for phllanthroplc donatlons, ap proximately one hundred dollars was collected during the year, this sum was to be used to help pay for graduatlon caps and gowns As t1me marched on, the class treasury was swelled by selling refreshments at basketball games and sponsormg round and square dances Spring brought us our flrst chance to prove h1dden acting gen1us the J umor Play' The usual rehearsal perxod preceedmg the presentatlon of Our Hearts Were Young and Gay was enlivened by a spaghettx dinner glven by our class advxsors, for the cast and a party the evenmg of the play The performance itself was a grand success, even though it was handicapped by a March snowstorm The culminating events of the year were the annual banquet and Prom A circus theme was mgemously carned out 1n the correlating act1v1ties, and thxs festive back ground lent 1tself very well to the assurance of a good time had by all On th1s happy note, the school year ended with the class well on 1ts way toward fmancmg the Washington trlp At the beglnnmg of our Senior year, it was decided to set a quota of twenty fxve dollars to be earned by each class member durmg the year Immedlately everyone set about earn 1ng this amount by selllng refreshments at scholastic events, Chrlstmas cards Cluustmas wrappings, and subscrlptlons for the town newspaper In add1t1on to these selhng sprees we deluged the student body with boxes of candy wh1ch added a few odd penrues November brought our second artistlc achievement, Sprlng Dance, ' a rollickmg comedy wh1ch proved beyond a doubt that acting ab111ty IS one of our attrlbutes The fla1r for doing things right showed 1tself beautlfully m the decoratxons for the bined to make the choosmff of Ernest1ne Ramsey as Snow Queen seem very approplate The perfect touch was achleved by havmg the coronatlon take place ln a gaily decorated slelgh Wlth these duties beh1nd us, the next Issue of lmportance was the publlshlng of the Yearbook Oh, the trlals and trxbulatlons of edxtmg Snapshots, class plctures, sport events, and wr1te ups all had to be dealt w1th ln a few short weeks D1d we let It depress us? No, we went stoutly ahead and d1d a grand Job on xt, as on every other activity we had undertaken At the close of our high school career, the Class of 48 can truly consider itself a Jack of all trades for we have had a share in salesmansh1p, actmg, decoratmg, ed1tm and last but not least, learning leadership A class history wouldn't be complete without the recogmtlon of the class offlcers and advisors who gulded our efforts during these four years Our choice of leaders in our Freshman year was Presxdent Bernard Sheehan Vzce President Rlchard Phelps, Secretary Treasurer Shirley Cole The officers in our Sophomore year were Presldent James Culbert, Vxce President Rxchard Phelps, Secretary Roger Swlft, Treasurer Mildred Witter As we entered upon that momentous Jumor year, Philxp Utter, Rlchard Phelps, Shirley Cole and James Cul bert held the position of Pres1dent, Vice Pres1dent, Secretary and Treasurer respectxvely These same students presided 1n our final year, and the1r perserverance, together w1th that of Mlss Inez Crawford and Mr Herman Knowles, has surely left the class wlth a feelmg of a Job well done and a lot of fun doing lt 17 - , as ' KK J!
