How strange! I see a room in great disorder and a man down on his all fours, looking at the rug through a magnifying glass. In one pocket is a notebook labeled Clues . In the other is a pair or handcuffs. He acts a wee bit peculiar. Now he rises. He turns toward me and I recognize him; it is John Nieman. This is the result of the mystery stories he was always reading. He is how a detective. Again the mist close down. When they rise again. it is three o'clock in the morning. A huge truck comes down the city street and pauses at the janitor's entrance of each apartment house. A man delivers a rack of milk bottles and drives on down the street. It is Gary Volding, proprietor and owner of a large dairy farm, making the delivery himself, just for fun. I remember that in the old days he always liked to sit up all night and that undoubtedly explains his choice of occupations. As a milkman, he can ride around town all night without fear of inquiring glances from policemen or night watchmen. He is happy at last and making money too. Now there is coming into view a hospital corridor. A nurse is coming from the room at the end of the hall. She is now walking toward us;we re- cognize her at once it is Doryce Sorenson. She always said she would be a nurse and we might add she has been very successful, for she is the head nurse of the hospital. Doryce also is planning on getting married soon. The sunssets and the light fades gradually. A purple haze covers ev- erything. The crystal clouds, and I can see no more. This little crystal sphere holds all the past and all the future. It can revel the hidden auu make known the secret. It can tell you what-ever your soul desires to know. I have been asked to search in its magic depths until I discover the future that awaits the members of our class, so soon to take their separate ways. I am about to read the crystal ball, but be- fore doing so, may I ask for your earnest cooperation? If you will but re- main absolutely silent and join me in concentrating upon the future leav- ing your mind wiped free of all conflicating impressions,I can promise you the information you desire. I thank you. There appears a vision of a church. A wedding is taking place, the minister has now pronounced them man and wife. They are now turning, they are Garnett Frogg and her dream man . The scene now changes, we see tall sky-scrapers in New York City. We go to the 102nd floor of the Empire State Building. There we find Judith Foley behind the desk keeping books for Mr. Stork. She always wanted to be up in the world, and how much higher can she get? Now we see Marlene Kingbury;she is out in the yard surrounded by her brood. We never dreamt you would be a chicken farmer, Marlene. Now a large room comes into view. It is empty except for two people and a grand piano. A small boy with sticky fingers and a look of agony on his face is trying to play exercise number 13 and his teacher, gritting her teeth to keep from spanking him, is counting one-two-three--one-two-three. She is Eleanor Kluver who is planning to marry soon. The clouds lift again. It is nine o'clock on a May morning. The old school bells are ringing. Tiny kindergarten children are hurrying up the walk to greet their teacher. She is Marietta Devin. Half the kids in the public school are hers. Oh well, she has always said she was going to be a teacher and also that she was going to have a big family, so she combin- ed her ambitions. The scene becomes noisy. Buzzings and ringings fill the ear. I see a long room around the sides of which are seated many girls. It is a tele- phone office. And the head operator is Marlene Hodson. She always did spend most of her time telephoning and seems to have concluded she might as well make some money at it. The scene shifts to the display room of a large gown establishment. A fashion show is now in progress. I was told that the beautiful gowns are designed by Marlene Hefti. I guess those sketches that she made in class- es in high school helped her a lot. CANDY KITCHEN, Britt FARMERS CO-OP CO., Britt
