Back in August of last year football again made an appearance in Crystal The coach, Nr Becker, was greeted by some twenty nine boys on the first day of practice It must have been an awful feeling for the coach to see us tripping over our own feet, bumping into each other in plays and missing easy passes But this did not discourage him, and he immediately went to work molding a team from this green material As the opening date drew near, the team looked something like this ends, Paul Larsen and Gene Davis, takles, Bob ahimmins and Gary Olson, guards, Rich- ard Robichaud and kay west, center, John Hermanson, quarterback, Fritz Bender, halfbacks, Victor klbiero and Billy Wiedrich, fullback, Pete Larsen This is the lineup that took the 13 e beating from Lake Linden in the first game The same boys started the next weekend at Houghton but again were turned back, L7 20 Hegaunee was the only other team to score against Houghton all year Returning to the home field we met the L'anse Purple Hornets and emerged victorious letting the purple clad return home on the short end of a 13 O score Next we went to Ontonagon to be beaten 39 12 the third defeat of our first season since l9L0 Back to the home field we went after our second victory against the powerful Niagara eleven After e tightly fought contest the Trojans were victorious by a 7 o score The next Saturday we traveled to Wakefield on a cold, rainy, or I say snowy, day and were trounced by the Cardinals 38 0 The season was brought to a close at the home field against the St Joseph Congregation and we wexs defeated 27 o The team will lose such stars as Richard Roblchaud, John Hermanaon, Gary Olson, Fritz Bender, Victor Alberio and Paul Larsen by graduation Great things w1D.be expected from the boys returning next year since they have had their needed experience Some of the boys returning from the last years squad will be Gene Davis, Lawrence Danielson, Bill Bottger, Bill Broman, Jack Eckola, Bob Shlmmins, Bob Robichaud, Pete Larsen, Bill Weidrich, Henry Lake, Robert Cram, Donald Kaski, Ronald Krempasky, John Stebic, Bill Carlson, Eugene La Chapelle, Basil Loffatt, Donald Pretto, John Alexa, Alton Beck, Donald Peterson, and Jim Anderson The record established by the football team was fair considerirg H055 of the UOYB hid Played f00UbHll before and here's hoping next season will end with the Trojans living up to their name in every way possible After footbaD.always comes the good old basketball season Practice sessions started after the football boys had rested a week Tie squad was cut after the first two weeks of practice The varsity squad was L composed of John Hermanson, Bill Bottger, Pete Larsen, Jerrv He Strom, Bill Wiedrlch, britz Bender, Lawrence Danielson, Victor hlberio, Gene Davis, David Leonard, Paul Larsen, and Francis Robiohaud Opening the season with Vulcan the team was victorious and Vulcan returned home on the dan ling and of a 28 20 score Next came our arch rivals the Norway Viklngs he ded by Alan Ronberg The Trojans were turned back by a 32 ul score after a tightly fought con test The Saints of Baraga invaded the Trojan court only to te defeated by the Red and Black by a twenty point margin The score, 55 35 Staying on our home court for the next two games we vere ULtb0K6d by the Iron River Redskins and at the end of the heated battle emerged vic torious by a JL 32 score.
