DEDICATION This year the Media staff is proud to dedicate the 1984 CRYSTALITE to two distinguished teachers whose combined teaching experience at Crystal City High School equals sixty-eight years — Mr. Don Hosutt and Mr. Elmer Smith. Mr. Hosutt has been a teacher in our school system for thirty-one years. Prior to his coming to CCHS, he taught for three years at Pattonville High School and for one year at Desloge High School. His bachelor’s degree was granted from Purdue University in 1949 and his Master’s degree from Washington University in 1951. Highlights in his career? Having Bill Bradley, a U.S. Senator, as a former student.’’ In 1955, Mr. Hosutt also became the first baseball coach at CCHS.” Mr. Hosutt served in the 8th Air Force in Europe in World War II. He has done extensive graduate work at six other universities. His plans for spending his time after retirement? “Lots of travel and lots of time for reading, canoeing, and loafing.” Mr. Smith has taught at CCHS for thirty-seven years. Before assuming his present position, he taught for two years at Jameson Elementary school and served for two years in the United States Navy. Some special moments in his career include a workshop at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and a conference workshop at the Argonne National Laboratory, Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Smith’s educational background includes work at four Missouri universities, as well as the University of Wisconsin at Madison, and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
