•______ THE CRYSTALITE CRYSTAL CITY HIGH SCHOOL CRYSTAL CITY, MISSOURI VOLUME IK WE PROUDLY DEDICATE THIS YEARBOOK TO OUR RETIRING SUPERINTENDENT MR. DAVID P. MAX Since 1949, the Crystal City school system has flourished under the leadership of Mr. David P. Max. This year we pay tribute to our retiring su- perintendent who gave Crystal City twenty years of his life to educate and guide the youth of the area. This dedication is just a small part of the gratitude we feel we owe Mr. Max. Mr. Max is third from the left in the front row, in this picture of the Rosendale High School bas- ketball team. 2 Mr. Max came to Crystal City to be- come superintendent of the Crystal City schools. Always interested in student activities, Mr. Max helps judge the homecoming floats. In 1926, Mr. Max graduated from Missouri State Teacher’s College at Maryville, Missouri. 3 FROM THE YEARBOOK STAFF KAREN KOZAL, EDITOR Dear friends. Can you remember what the first day of school was like, or how angry you were when the gym class had to run extra laps? Do you remember what it was like to be in the senior play or make a touchdown? Can you ever forget the crowded halls, sloppy lockers, endless lines at the water fountains, the morning announcements, the lunch half hours, the showers, the bas- ketball games, or the dirty gym clothes? For a short time, all the memories are still vivid in everyone's mind, but as years go by, these memories will be lost or pushed aside by new experiences. The 1969 Crystalite will help you recall and relive some of the experiences you swore you would never forget. This yearbook will put you right back on the pitcher’s mound during a baseball game, or singing in the chorus, or walking onto the stage, or feeling that diploma being put into your hand. There has never been a year like 1969. The 1969 Crystalite is a personal record of all that happened and will be a priceless possession as we grow older. Karen Kozal, Editor The Yearbook Staff: Debbie Boyer, Becky DeRousse, Kitty Doza, Carolyn Malcolm, Cindy Genrich, and Karen Kozal. 4 TABLE OF CONTENTS ADMINISTRATION.............6 CLASSES...................21 SPORTS....................67 CLUBS ORGANIZATIONS.....93 ACTIVITIES...............101 ADVERTISING..............113 THE BOARD OF EDUCATION Crystal City High School Board of Education: Dr. Weible. The student council carries on a variety of activities and projects during the school year from the freshman mixer the first week of school to the student council election near the end of school. Karen Kozal was president of this year’s council and Paul Burch was vice-president. Karen’s administration provided us with the concrete benches that grace our lawn. The election this year was notable for the tremendous campaign the candidates waged. Harry Zerwig emerged as president and Joe Poliak as vice-president of the council for next school year (1969-70). We are sure that Harry and Joe will carry on in the fine tradition our previous officers have left us. To Karen and Paul, a hearty “well done.’’ Mr. Paul Browning sponsors the student council. 91 DEBATE CLUB SOCIAL SCIENCE SEMINAR Debate Club Front Row: Jim Turk, Pat Davis, Miss Abernathy, Rick Kopenhefer, Danny Schunks.
