tffw teyaifrfi i- Slatf t ioje SluduM Sexewoxd Memories of our days in high school will always be cherished. There were disappointments in growing up as well as the many, many happy mo- ments. Friendships were made--some of which will be forgotten except when a reminder, such as a yearbook opened to a certain page, recalls them. The 1957 CRYSTALITE hopes to provide for always a lasting memory of the school year. Many changes have been made to improve the book so that it presents a true picture of school life. Whenever you open your CRYSTALITE let it help you to remember your school year as it was in 1956-1957. The Staff: Pat Halberstadt James Graham Viola Wright Dorothy Harris Cecelia Mangos Glee Heiligtag Barbara Oberiander --Sponsor ‘Dedication E. E. SMITH Science Department B.S. and M.A. from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College. Mr. E. E. Smith is one of C.C.H.S.'s science in- structors. In the years that he has taught at C.C.H.S. he has helped many students, not only in the field of science, but also in the everyday problems of the students. He will be re- membered by all who have ever known him as a man who demands respect. For this reason we dedicate this book to him. 3 Superintendent Of, ‘PuMic SefuwLs The Superintendent of Schools has a very important position in keep- ing our school running smoothly. He is Chief Administrative Officer of the Board of Education and works with them insetting the policies of the school. He also secures personnel for the school, makes out the budget, and exercises a general supervision over the whole school system. MR. DAVID P. MAX, Superintendent Mr. Max, our Superintendent, has been affiliated with our school system for eight years. He came to Crystal City in 1949 from Union, Missouri where he had served for eight years. During his administration, he has done much to makeour schoola better place in which to work and play. A familiar face to all C.C.H.S. students is Miss Mary Lee Schulte. She is not only Sec- retary for the Board of Education and the Secre- tary to the Superintendent of Schools, but she has many duties which she performs every day for the student body. MISS MARY LEE SCHULTE 6 ffiawai afi Our Board of Education lead by six public spirited men can be given credit for much of the achievement and pro- gress made by C.C.H.S. These men, besides being on the Board of Education, are also leaders in their community. They hold a board meeting each month todiscuss the business at hand. They have many duties which vary in type, but they handle them all with great ease. These men, who are seldom seen by the students, have had much to do with mak - ing C.C.H.S. the modem school it is. MR. H. H. HANNA, PRESIDENT SEATED, Left to Right during a meeting are: Mr. Zeno Fults, Mr. Robert Braskett, Mr. Earl Glasgow, Mr. H. H. He helps the lower classmen adjust to their high school life through private conferences. He also helps those students not sure about the vocation they are best suited for by giving them interest and personality tests. Those seniors who plan to attend college learn through him the names of various colleges and universities which offer them the best curri- culum for the field of work they may wish to enter. The students of C.C.H.S. have discovered the coun- selor’s office is a valuable asset to their school. 8 Clfflice. Cl£ CGJtS fruncipxil Mr. E. J. Christy has a very important position at C.C.H.S., as our principal. He has many hardships to overcome in keeping our school running properly. One of his most important jobs involves his meeting with the faculty in working out a pro- gram that will be best suited for the school and students. Some of his other assignments include; Personnel manager of teachers and students, co- ordinator of activities, and public relations. The primary functions of a school principal are to make the school a place where pupils can learn most readily. The eight girls pictured below are Mr. Christy’s office helpers. The teaching skills and the understanding of our faculty helps our teacher-pupil relationship greatly. The teachers of C.C.H.S. not only use their skills to teach us but to help us with our everyday problems. They are present be- fore and after all activities at school, working to keep the gym, the classrooms, and the auditorium in an orderly condition. Ron Sanguinette, President, was not present when this picture was taken. Scttie C£adk The Seniors have just completed their fourth yearof high school. Their last days at CCHS are now beautiful memories. These high points should stand out clearly: The Halloween Dance, which they sponsored as sophomores, was enjoyed by all; as Juniors they sponsored the Coke Room and the beautiful Junior-Senior Prom; as Seniors their Christmas Dance gave gaiety and spirit to the Christmas Season. The Senior Play was full of warmth and humor. The characters were portrayed by the fine actors and actresses from their class. They were thrilled and excited when their rings arrived, distinguishing them as Seniors. When they tried on their caps and gowns they knew this phase of their life was ended. But at the same time they understood that they were ready to go into the future, confident that they will find a successful life. 16 GEORGE AMUNDSON Student Council; Sophomore Pilgrimage; Class Officer; Junior Class President; Chairman of Prom Committee; Ring Committee Chairman; Boys State; President of National Honor Society; Dramatics Club; Senior Play. Their sponsors, Mr. Rapp, Mrs. Hamrick and Mrs. DeWitt have many plans for future years. One of the important things they do for their school is to sponsor the coke room. Every Junior sometime during the school year worked in the coke room serving his schoolmates. The Junion were responsible for an entertaining Junior-Senior Prom, which was given in honor of the school year. Not only are they looking forward to their Senior Year as being an exciting and adventure- ous one, but also toward the advancements they will make in the field of new learnings. There were par- ties picnics, dances, barbe- cues, and other types of enjoy - able recreations. The school lunch room was often turned into a rec re at ion area after school for many of these par- ties. One of the highlights of the fall sea- son was the Homecoming Parade which was sponsored by the student Council. The Sophomore class won first place with their float showing a sailboat and the motto, Let's Sail To Victory . The parade also featured many other clever floats, decora- ted cars, and the high school band. Generally, ten members of the journalism class are seniors, with two members of the junior class. The two juniors will be the future CRYSTA- LITE and CRYSTAL MIRROR editors. The members of the CRYSTAL MIRROR staff edited a paper bi-monthly, with special issues at Christmas time, Valentine’s day, April Fool’s day and for Senior Week.
