A mile and a quarter. . . CROSS COUNTR Y.. . running miles and miles over sidewalks, roadways and fields . .. total effort, exhaustion, tension, and pressure are all experienced. Vigorous preparation and physical condi¬ tioning produce the victor. Endurance . .. hustle, can’t let the other guy get ahead, save strength for those final few yards which will prove the difference. . . can ' t quit now, push harder, every muscle must co-operate, breaths become shortened, and the sound of exhausted pantings are heard. . . over hill, over dale, hit that dusty trail, run, run, run. Hear muffled sounds of footsteps in the distance, closer, closer. Runners approach the chutes, neck and neck ... a final spurt of effort is put out and an exhausted, smiling winner re¬ gains his breath in his moments of glory. Phil Russell Mike Conquest

TENNIS... 10 wins and 1 loss tell the story. The second consecutive LCTA championship. A season of victories attributed to balanced teamwork . . . individ¬ ual excellence. Move in, drop back, forehand, back¬ hand . . . easy now, place that next shot on his weak side, perfect set up, here it comes — SMASH! That fuzzy, hollow sphere and a thick badminton racket are the tools of the trade. These coupled with the expert knowledge of their use produce the champ . . . Knowing when and where to move and how to react to various game situations, putting enough speed and spin on the ball, keeping always in a physical and mental state of alert¬ ness and condition also figure predominately in the game. Run now, but keep in position, carefully take the upper hand and another CP opponent bites the dust. Steve Lett Greg Claussen Coach Mike Ross, Rick Armbrust. 11
