Randy Mitchell, George Zieseniss, Jim Curry Summer is ending. . . remembrances of the Fair hover in the not too distant past. . . ice cream vendors ' bells fall silent. Summer evenings slip by quietly and unnoticed like the sand in an hourglass. Mosquites die out. . . leaves fall from trees . . .flowers die from morning frost. Boredom creeps into carefree lives . . . pool closes . . . sun-browned cheeks fade. Friends parted for summer are reunited. Digging out wool skirts and sweaters . . . new school shoes to be broken in .. . stores advertise school supplies. Recovering from the last bike hike . . . watching the final game of the baseball season . . . Labor Day—the last joyful fling ofsummer. But this isn ' t the end, it’s only the beginning. . . BACK-TO-SCHOOL. Coming to school

Schedules madeup by computer for first time. . . long lines at guidance counselor’s door. . . schedules finally in order. New class offered for boys .. . family living. Dress code revised to fit socially accepted styles for the school year. Club meetings ... athletic practice. . . meeting in rec room for latest gossip. Painting posters . . . making signs for lockers . . . boosting ego of players . . . intensifying school spirit. Seniors counting days left ... a new sign each day. . . sophomores full of excitement. . . juniors waiting for next year. . . seniors anticipating future . year will end too soon for some. . . but not soon enough for others.
