PRESIDENT Emmett Smith 'They fail, and they alone, who have not striven.' These words of Thomas Bailey Aldrich occupy one short line in space on a white page, but they contain volumes of truth and wisd m when allow d to suggest all that they actually mean. Nobody who puts into an project all that he is can fail. Man fail before they begin because their beginning is half-hearted and lifeless. Failure is stamped across the face of their task simply because they have not striven faithfully. Wwho does his best shall have as a guest the Master of light and lifen, wrote Van Dyke in his WGospel of Laborn. Paul said, NI can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.n To the seniors of Crowley's Ridge Academ I say with all certainty: You can do and be what you want to do and be, regardless of what that may be. The capa- cities and capabilities of man with the help of his creator are limitless. We skimp along through life with little or no accomplishment simply because we have not had sufficient vision to set our sights high. Solomon said long ago, Wwhere there is no vision the people perish.W When Israel was wandering in the wilderness, their leaders with God's assurance offered the all of the Land of Cannan if they would but go over and possess it. But, not a foot of it would be theirs until they poss- essed it. 'The earth is the Lord's and the fulness thereof.n The earth is HIS3 you are HIS5 so, if you strive faithfully for HIM you cannot in this world know failure! The earth is yours, BUT YOU MUST STRIVE FOR IT! Sincerely, Emmett Smith BOARD OF TRUSTEES Travis Blu' C- L- Bradley Boyd Morgan Hayden Carter

To the Senior Class of 1959: So you're leaving us now! Are you surprised, as you look back over the last few years, at how fast they have passed? You can remember, I think, the times when you used to wonder if you would ever be through with high school. Now you can see that the time you have spent Ln, Crowley's Ridge Academy was really not long at all. Perhaps a few oi you even wish now that you could be back again next year. Life, too, speeds by before we realize it is gone. It is even a vapour, that apneareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. If we are to get from our lives what we desire, and do with them what we should, we must live every moment to its fullest. We must establish early in our lives goals and principles which will lead us to rich, happy experiences. Otherwise we may later ask, Where am I going? and find that we have already gone--and perhaps to places we 1 would never have consciously chosen. SUPERINTENDHT I hope that your days at C.R.A. have helped you to make Ray wright wise choices for your future lives. I hope that you have learned what things will bring you lasting joy. I hope that none of your precious time will be wasted in chasing phantoms that will fade when you try to seize them. My wishes for you are suggested to some extent in this epiqram of Jonathan Swift'ss May you live all the days of your life. I would add: ...and then some!
