The schedule included two overnight trips, one in Colorado Springs, the second in Trinidad. Winning individual honors is a difficult task in forensics. In an average meet, there will be anywhere from 20-100 entries in a single event. This year, Crowley County had some winners. Steve Fosdick took first in Drama at Fowler and, in placing fifth at District, qualified for the State Tournament. Diane Montanez took fifth in Humor at Fowler and third in Humor at Rocky Ford. Shayne Lane and Lori Medina took first in Sr. Debate at Rocky Ford, Lori also took fourth in Poetry in that meet. Charlie Montanez took first in Humor and third in Drama at Rocky Ford. Awards were given by Mr. Pat Bentley, Sponsor, Head Girl Nancy Hallmark, and Head Boy John Cordsen. Entertainment, guitar playing and singing, was given by Pam Butler. 82 Nancy Hallmark-Head Girl rjlm CANDLELIGHT CERE NY It is better to light just one little candle Than to stumble in the dark Better far that you light just one little candleg All you need's a tiny spark. If we'd all say a prayer that the world would be free, The wonderful dawn of a new day we'd see, And if everyone lit just one little candle What a bright world this would be. When the day is dark and dreary And your way is hard to find, Don't let your heart be weary Just keep this thought in mind. The guest speaker: Pastor Earl Hamilton Wvmnm.. Funny, don't you think? You remember little things, A quiet talk, A lonely walk, The way the lunch bell rings. Little things like singing On a crowded pep club bus. The time you lost a friend Just over a little fuss. You remember the hurt, And sometimes all the tears. The hard times, The bad times. But it's the good things, the happy ones, That will last through the years. The memories will blur The names will fade away But the good times, the true friends, These will always stay. by Linda Gray 1968 CCHS graduate 64444 of 7977 PENNY C RNY This year the Senior Class held their second Penny Carnival on April first. Mrs. Mann was a special lady that touched not only our lives but the lives of many of our parents. Mrs. Mann was born October 6, 1897 in Council Grove, Kansas. She grew up in Oklahoma and began her teaching career there, which lasted approximately 12 years, in a one room school. She received her BA at Adams State College in 1958, and was married to Horace fSliml Mann, on June 7, 1935 at Crowley. She began teaching in the Crowley County School system in Crowley in 1945. She taught fifth grade from then until her retirement in 1970, the next year she came out of retirement to teach one last year in the sixth grade. Her first graduating class was the class of 1953. She continued as a substitute until this spring. Besides teaching Mrs. Mann was very active in many other areas. She served for 30 years as Crowley town clerk, was active in Crowley Community Baptist Church, member of Rebekah Lodge at Ordway, member of Colorado Education Association and of American Legion Auxiliary. Throughout the years of knowing Mrs. Mann, many of us as well as our parents had grown to love her not only as a teacher but as a friend. You never missed seeing her warm, friendly smile at any school function. We will never forget her but will always cherish her memory with love.
