Nancy was born May 19, 1961 in Ferndale, Michigan. Her family moved to Lexington Heights in 1974 and she attended the Croswell-Lexington schools. In February of 1977, Nancy was diagnosed as having Hodgkins disease, a disease which is 85 percent curable. Enlightened with the meaning of life, Nancy spread love, strength, and friendship among everyone. After 19 months of Hodgkins disease, Nancy died on Sep- tember 1978 leaving an emptiness in many. As the years roll by . . . We laugh and cry. Our friendship grows . . We've so much to know. The days fly past . . But memories will last. The end seems near . . . The future unclear. But as we’ll see . . . The best is to be. Nancy Bourdeau Mtaorial 4 I know you feel down and blue, As I have felt the same way, too. You think life is gone for you, But, you must realize this isn't true. You feel that all has been lost, But, you must hang on at all costs. Don’t give up on yourself, Just because of your health. I know it’s like living in hell, But one day you will get well. Think of those who love you, Let them help you pull through. Fears are meant to share, Trust in those of us who care. Think of all you can give. And how wonderful it is to live. Nancy Bourdeau The center poem was written by Nancy to a patient who also had Hodgkins disease, but had given up The pictures are from Nancy’s trip to California in the summer of 1978. Two weeks after her return, Nancy was admitted to the University of Michigan Hospital, where she remained until her death. The programs serve both K-12 classrooms and the community, taking the schools into the community and bringing the community into the schools. Community Education is a process which establishes structures for community members to identify their own needs and problems. It is an effort aimed at total use of existing resources, both human and material, for the purpose of opening the community and allowing individuals and communities to reach their fullest potential. The process is usually centered at community schools, where people work through school or community wide advisory councils to devise programs to meet their needs. Roberts-General Merchandising GETTING TO KNOW YOUR FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS Croswell-Lexington's other half of the Foreign Exchange Student program is Gunilla Bonnedahl, from Omskoldsuik, Sweden. Gunilla finds that here at Cros-Lex anything going on is affiliated with the school. Back at her home in Sweden, the main stay is Soccer. She likes the variation that the United States portrays. In a comparison of school life, Gunilla feels that the U.S. style of school is much easier. At home, school is much more college orientated. Gunilla was rather surprised at the way we Americans say whatever we feel. Other strong differences that were sited are in the involvement of politics and parent-child relationships. Moon-Ja Beck comes to Cros-Lex via Vinge-Telemark Norway Her home lies about three hours from Oslo, Norway! Moon-Ja says that when tourists from the U.S. come to Norway that they are rich and so people stereotype Americans as being rich. Unfortunately, we know that this isn’t the real story. Miss Beck also says that our school and the large amount of junk foods we eat are the only real dif- ferences between her and our society. Upon returning to Norway, Moon-Ja Hopes to find a secretarial type job. Organization 60 NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY always thinking about it MEMBERS BOTTOM ROW: P. Leppek, S. Clark, K. Jarmolowicz, L. In order to make these trips the NHS held an Easter cake raffle, bake sales, basketball concessions, and the annual spring car wash. During the second semester several junior and sophomore members were added. In order for these students to be eligible they had to carry a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and have showed participation within the school and-or community. Organization 61 STUDENT COUNCIL BUILDS LEADERSHIP This year’s student council consisted of 30 members, 10 representatives from the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. All were selected by their classmates. Four seniors made up the of- ficers for this council. Student Council Advisor again this year.. Mr. Sprowl. Croswell-Lexington High School, through the aid of this busy group saw a well organized Homecoming Parade and dance the following night. During the course of the year, two bands visited the C-L school system. One, the Salt and Light Company, was Campus Life backed. The other, Earth Opera, made a tour of area schools. Our school's annual Snowball’ Dance saw the likes of a band named ‘Jammer’. SOPHOMORE CLASS STUDENT COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVES Members include: (Top, left to right) B. Wilson, D Brandt, P. Moran, M. Stover, J. Vassallo, J. Vachon. (Kneeling) B. Doyle, A. Long, N. Hovanec, C. Stencel. Student Council put on various activities throughout both the Snowball and Homecoming weeks. A week after the ‘Snowball’, Kent Fishcel, a speaker from Indiana, had several opportunities to talk with students on the importance of self worth and motivation. For those students who hadn’t noticed , the malt, pop, and candy machines were all possible because of Student Council backing. Probably the biggest festivity put on by the Student Council was the St. Patricks Day Dance featuring the band of ‘Bic Daddy Lokowski. All the students of C-L High owe the Student Council a Big ’thanks’ for the work they put into making this year a little more varied than any other year.
