This is the time of year when everybody gets together to prepare for the coming home of alumni. A time of the year when memories remind us of past Homecomings. The season when school spirit is at its peak. When the guys worry about finding enough money so they can ask a girl to the Homecoming Dance and the girls worry about getting asked. Main topics of conversations in the halls are: “Who’s taking who”, “Whose float is the best”, and most of all, “Who will be king and queen?” Homecoming Court: Anne Dickensheets, Mark Hollis, Terry Clark, Jeff Shinn, Queen Sue and King Steve, Shari Krzysiak, Mary Charzyn- ski, Wendy Weyneth, and Jeff Tremble. It was very different from 1976-77 year when there were not any extra curricular activities. That meant we had double pictures to take, more deadlines, no experience, and the same amount of time to do it in. Difficult? Yes. But we are proud to say “we did it.” 56 NEWSPAPER WINS AWARDS Back Row Jim Burns, Jim Stevens, Bill Courtney, Dennis Newton, Dave Clarkson, Mr. Harold Mageski Advisor, Front Row Liz Pitre, Mary Wolfe, Cheryl Brumm. Cros-Lex fans packed the stands to be a part of the largest crowd ever to assemble at a Cros-Lex football game. The result was a satisfying 22-6 victory over arch-rival. Peck. However, it was the only victory, as they dropped their remaining eight contests. Basketball didn’t bring much more success as Mr. Tony Monte’s Pioneers finished a, wiijless 0-17. The year did how- ever, bring it’s exciting moments. After losing many of their games by large margins, the quad.began tcftomc around. The team played Marine City, a top league teaiji, and were defeated in the final seconds.49 48. Had the Pioneers' woti tney would have prevented Marine City from sharing a piece of the S.C.A.L. title, with St. Clair. Although the wins were few. the determination shown throughout the yearbv our sports teams, ite encour- aging. With next year ahead, the Croswell-Lexington sports program has nowhere to go but up. 90 Lett to right: Top row: Joe Griffiths, John Ilovanec, Randy Bales; Second row: Dale Barr, Tim Smith, Dave Vincent, Kirk Kemp. GOLFERS EXPERIENCE REBUILDING SEASON It was overall a mediocre season for the golfers, however, they did manage the place third in the league meet, and surprise a lot of their opponents. Todd Klein led the Individual honors by being se- lected to the S.C.A.L. All-Conference squad. Todd is just a Sophomore. Joe Crawford, a senior, was chosen the squads M.V.P. as selected by his fellow teamates. In the league Cros-Lex finished with a 4-8 overall record, however, will return four of their top five golfers, to compete next golf season. 95 Golf Scores Cros-Lex 178 Algonac 221 (W) Cros-Lex 183 St. Clair 182(L) Cros-Lex 174 Marine City 163 (L) Cros-Lex 175 Anchor Bay 163(L) Cros-Lex 181 Port Huron Central 221 (W) Cros-Lex 186 Marysville 165 (L) Cros-Lex 191 Algonac 229 (W) Cros-Lex 178 St. Clair 160 (L) Cros-Lex 181 Anchor Bay 185 (W) Cros-Lex 175 Marine City 173(L) Cros-Lex 178 Port Huron Central 177(L) Cros-Lex 175 Marysville 156 (L) League Record: 4 Wins 8 Losses Cross-Country Shows Improvement Macklem shows good form. The Cros-Lex Cross-Country squad had a better than Average season, led by the strong, consistent running of Senior Bob Bigger. Bigger, along with the rest of squad surprised a lot of peo- ple, including a top rated Marlette team, whom the Pioneers upset during the season. Much determination and hard work was expressed through the year by the squad, and their overall rec- ord sufficiently proved that. 96 Girls Varsity Basketball Experiences Rebuilding Standing: Manager L. Cros-Lex Varsity Basketball Squad this past winter finished their season with an 0-17 overall mark. The team finished winless in the St. Clair Area League, al- though they played many games to the wire, and ceased to give up. Don Rogerson, Dean Barr, and Dean Monte scored well for the Pioneers through the sea- son, and were complimented well by the rebounding of Senior Steve Bombard. These four players along with the remainder of the team worked together to put forth a maximum effort. Although failing to achieve a victory the team never lost it’s spirit and enthusiasm. Although they only recorded three victories against thirteen defeats the team lost many by one or two points. Brian DeVriendt, Bill Walker, and Mark Hollis led the J.V.’s with their scoring and rebounding through- out the year. Coach Don Roberts did an excellent job of putting together a fine squad from inexperienced players. The squad definetely promises to bring a good future to the Varsity basketball program. The 1977-78 Yearbook Staff has tried to tell a very special story in this book. It’s the story of our school and of the people in it. Within the pages you saw people laughing crying, playing, fighting, winning and losing. It probably showed more emotion and will mean more to you than any other book you have ever read because it is about YOU. So-years from now when names start to fade and the memories aren’t as clear anymore-we hope you can look back and enjoy remembering.
