This past football season ended with a 2-6 record. Al- though it was Coach Parseli's first year, he did an excellent job of coaching the team, it was noticable that each player gave his all and tried their best as a team. As spectators we were aware of the heavy fog that drifted over the playing field; during portions of the game the players were merely shadows. The 1971 J.V. Football team consists of: Dennis J. Bigger, Mark FJlis, l arry Longendykc, Jim Moran, George O’Connor, Randy O’Connor. David J. Zink, Tom Hewitt, Bob Burch, Tim Speed. Paul Smith, Ed Mathews. Steve Walker. Dave Kredcll, Ron Vallee. Jerry Hurley, Tom McLane. Ken Whit- more, Mike Skelton, Al Robertson. Steve McGarvie, Dan Manger Smith, Dan Deittrick, Ralph McNabb, Tom McLane. All League Jeff Dennison, senior halfback and linebacker on the Pioneer football team, has been selected as a defensive back on the St. Clair Area League all-star team. He was the only Cros-Lex player chosen by the coaches. Dennison started the season as a defensive halfback but injuries to Rod Adams and Mike Phillips prompted Cocah Stu Parsell to shift him to a halfback position on of- fense and to linebacker on defense where he immediately stood out, especially on the defensive unit. He was credited with an average of nine solo tackles and an equal number of assists per game. 15
