Jh 'Dedication Mr. Kent Freeland has steadily worked for the improvement of the chemistry and physics departments of Croswell-Lexington High School. During his fourteen years of teaching at this school he has attended seminars, workshops and oceanography field trips to extend his knowledge of these subjects. This knowledge has been passed along to his students, many of whom have gone on to successful careers in science. His enthusiasm for life is not limited to classroom work only. The Yearbook and Science Club have received his full attention during his years of sponsorship. He has never hesitated to use his own time for these projects. THE CLASS OF '70 SALUTES YOU, MR. FREELAND. 2 September is hete . . . Mr. Caldwell Asst. Superintendent Mr. Snyder Asst. It was closed last year because it lacked a librarian, and there were classes held in there through- out the day. Mrs. Stade has increased the number of books and has opened a paperback bookstore. Most kids complain good-naturedly about the food, but they admit that it's pretty good. Mrs. Wilson, the head cook, said ail the cooks enjoyed working with the students and although they complained, they still ate the food. IT). CAK'DS CROSWELL LEXINGTON COMMUNITY SCHOOLS CltOSWKLL. MICH 422 LOUIS STALL GRAHAM ROAD CROSWELL, MICH. Because of the problem of undesirable persons attending the dances and games at the high school, the administration decided that I. D, cards would be necessary. These cards have a picture, the student's name, class, and cost $1.25. Most stu- dents feel the cards were a waste, because they weren't required to use them at any of the school activities. 9 For one million dollars... The duty of the hall monitors is to keep the kids out of the halls so the teachers and kids can get their work done without disturbances in the hall. Wake up Dan! 10 Student Council The Student Council is the voice of the student body. Its purpose is to represent the students, and to get done what they would like to see done. The Student Council has tried to unite the student body and bring about a closer relationship between the students and the faculty. This year the Student Coun- cil realized there was a need for some form of com- munication between the students and faculty. They sponsored an open meeting, inviting all the faculty and the students, to express their views on the dress code. Very few de- cisions were made, but the students found they could talk to teachers about things they never could before. And the teachers found out that the students are young adults, not babies. 11 K. Bernardo Pres. L. Petersen V. Pres. 12 Student Government N. Shaw Sec. L. Senior Hall (above) Junior Hall (above left) Sophomore Hall (center left) Freshman Hall (below) 21 I Could it be ? Those itty-bitty freshmen ? Much to the amazement of the school, the freshmen produced a number one hall for the 1969 Homecoming. It was indeed a winning jungle of support for the Pioneers! Homecoming ... Mancie and Kim... Nancie has been very active all through high school. She has been inGAA, Booster Club, and Senior band for four years. She was a majorette for three years, and on the student coun- cil two years. This year she is president of GAA and Booster Club, and secretary of student council. Nancie has a great personal- ity, and her sense of humor keeps everyone laughing. All these things have made Nancie popular enough to be our 1969 Homecoming Queen. Kim has been active in sports all through his high school years. Football, basketball and track are the three main sports he has participated in. He has been a member of the Varsity Club for fouryears, an officer for three years, and president in his Senior year. Kim has a personality that makes everyone like him. His personality, sense of humor, and friendliness has made him popular, even with freshmen. All these things combined made it possible for Kim to be elect- ed 1969 Homecoming King. At first this may not seem impressive, unless one realizes that Cros-Lex was at a disadvantage because we had to start from scratch due to the fact of no money the previous year for debate. Ken Bernardo took the best speaker award with the highest number of points averaged from the season's debates. ?. m. e. F. Row: Mrs. Smallwood-Advisor, A. Gaines-V. Pres., J. Flannigan, M. Sutton, L. This was my first year of experience in the field of journalism, and all but two of my staff were greenhorns too. Consequently, we all had a lot of learning to do: how to gather news, how to edit our articles, how to set up a page, and that messy job of running off a page. Putting out a worthwhile paper is hard work, as I’m sure any journalism student will tell you! With the assistance of our two veterans, Don Cornwell and Mike Wright, we caught on very quickly. I feel my students have succeeded in making this paper interesting and informative, which is a goal to be proud of! —Mrs. M. Bricker D. Cornwell; Editor, Mrs. Bricker (Advisor) M.
