Pioneer Memories It's a big step forward; a lot of people walk through these doors in a yearV ATot more walk through in four years. I.'ve had the privilege of walking through these last four. Talking, listening, playing, learning; all part of becoming young adults. This building lies deep in the hearts of the class of '69, but it lies deeper than most in mine, and I hope as you look through this book, you pass through the same doors the class of '69 has opened. Dennis Lemon Editor In Dedication... During the three years that Mr. Parets has been at Cros-Lex, he has boosted the enthusiasm and spirit of the students to a level which will never be forgotten. He has unselfishly spent endless hours with the band and orchestra. He proved that Cros-Lex could put on a fabulous musical. He gave the students encouragement through the difficult times. He has definitely left a mark which will be long re- membered. 2 3 ADMINISTRATION MR. FREELAND Chemistry Physics Adv. Science MRS. FULMER MR. (Back Row) K. Stoutenburg; C. King; B. Bassett; D. Trowhill; D. Donaldson; L. Maxwell; I. Hickson; P. Brockman. Judy and Debbie To most students a 4.000 average is seemingly unat- tainable. No matter how hard one struggles and strives, it seems as if the grades never quite average to a 4.000. Cros-Lex is proud to have two girls at the head of our class: Judy Doan, our Valedictorian, has attained a 4.000 average throught her high school days, while Deb- bie Adams, our Salutatorian, has had an overall average of 3.92. Words are hard to find when it comes to expressing our feelings toward these students. Such ability and am- bition that prompts anyone to work so hard for four years is beyond praise. It is a great accomplishment made by those worthy of the best. ANDREA ADAMS You know P m not one to gossip. The senior year is the last opportunity to gain knowledge for the future, whether it be college, business, or homemaking. Aside from the required U.S. Government, there is a choice of the area of study especially needed or most interested in for this final year. The lan- guage was the greatest problem for me. But every- body was kind to me. Teachers, friends, and es- pecially my American family helped me a great deal to adjust to the new environment. As I was used to crowded people, I missed people. But I liked Michi- gan, Lake Huron, Cros-Lex High School, and the kind people. I enjoyed staying here very much. I'm glad I came to the United States. Someday in the future I'd like to come back again. When anyone of you have a chance to visit Japan, please let me know, I’ll be happy to see you again. The Student Council started the year by having a Teachers’ Tea to welcome the faculty to school and introduce them to the President and Vice President for the coming year. The Student Council, with the Vice President acting as chairman, was in charge of the homecoming activities. The Council attended the meeting of Division II of the Michigan Association of Student Councils at Delta College. Another Student Council project was the talent show—the gifted contestants helped to make it a great success. One thing the Student Council did which was hoped to help public relations is a bulletin board on which was posted all the events of the Council. Gail, Diane, Debbie, and Janice The Cros-Lex Student Council also took an active part in forming the St. Clair Area League Associa- tion of Student Councils. During Michigan Week the Student Council sponsored a student-teacher ex- change day, where a student may be a teacher for a day. The Student Council sponsored several as- semblies this year and has set up a, hopefully, good selection for next year. Near the end of the year a campaign was held to return all due and overdue books to the library. One of the most important jobs is the sponsoring of an exchange student from our school to another country for two months this sum- mer; and also acting as the sponsors for the two exchange students who came to our school. 51 Gravesite Monticello Concert Band N. The football field is a patch of green until navy and white uniforms illuminate the dark. The crowd stands at rapt attention as the sound of Cros-Lex's Marching Band penetrates the silence. To be a member of the Marching Band is an honor as well as an accomplishment. It takes a great deal of time and devotion to make a really good band. Long hours are spent in the dewy grass in early morning practicing and perfecting new half-time routines. Under the direction of Mr. Paul L. Parets and drum majors. Chuck Rowling and Dale Stover, the band strives for this goal. But all the work most certainly pays off. The Cros-Lex Marching Band was asked this year to play as a fea- tured band for a Detroit Lion’s football game. The Marching Band deserves every praise possible. No group could work harder. Choir C. And six hundred students go cheering their team on to glory; shaking the walls of the gymnasium as they hope for victory. A pep assembly only begins to add to the spirit of the basketball season. Hours before a game begins; the bleachers are already filling with fans. When the game starts, everyone cheers as the team crashes through the victory hoop. Later, whether the game was won or lost, the after game dance provides a place to pat the weary players on the back. Leaving the dance, you look towards the deserted floor and still hear the echoes of the cheers. R. Matthew 8 R. McIntyre D. Me Lane J. Mendoza R. Moneghin J. Moles worth F. Moran J. Morrissey P. For our money-making project this year, the Yearbook Staff intended to sponsor a Snowmobile Show, the first in this immediate area. Everything was in readiness including the awards. Except one: the Weatherman! From the scheduled time January 19 until April we had no snow! At least not enough for the show. The following sponsors did much to help us with the show we did not have. But they did more than this. When our show failed, they as- sisted us financially so that we were able to make this Yearbook of '69 the book that it is! For this, we thank them and ask your support of these firms. ART'S RECREATION, CROSWELL BREWSTER TRACTOR SALES, CROSWELL COREY'S DINNERBELL, CROSWELL CROSWELL MOTOR PARTS, CROSWELL H. H.
