Dedication Because of her high ideals, her steadfast loyalty, and her never failing interest in her classes and the entire school, we take great pleasure in dedicating the 1953 Annual to Mrs. Charles Stover, Senior English and Government Teacher of Crosweil-Lexington High School. In September we were Seniors, And on Homecoming day, Our candidate was chosen, To start us on our way. That first year we were busy, Just learning all the ways, We could torment our teachers, These were practiced later days. November brought our Senior play, It was well attended. The name was ‘Family Circle,’ Our theatrics now were ended. Then we emerged as Sophomores, And the day finally came, To initiate the Freshmen, And we gladly did the same. At Christmas time our pictures came, Our Senior Scrapbooks, too; We were busy writing autographs, For the pals that we all knew. This year we also sponsored a show, A minstrel show at that; It was our first high school success, With jokes and ridiculous hats. In May we were guests of the Juniors, For that special social night; W'e dined and danced and merrily laughed, ’Til palest dawning light. When fall of fifty-one arrived, It found us Juniors all; We had a busy winter, And a formal Christmas Ball. We went to New York for some glorious days, Our last event as a class; All of us had a wonderful time, But, gee, it was over so fast! This fall, too, our rings arrived. And we were very proud; Our lovely nominee became. Queen of the Pioneer crowd. And then Graduation! The day came at last; And four years of wondering, Finally were past. During this season we were busy, Selling magazines, A yearly Junior project. And lots of work for teens. We had graduation parties. And lots of Senior fun; Our high school days were over, And another phase begun. March was Junior play time, W'e chose a comedy; A lot of fun, a big success, “We Shook the Family Tree.” Standing with diplomas, On that grandest Night of Nights, Were ninety-five graduates, Their eyes on great heights. When Spring came our plans were made, For the banquet and the Prom; Our theme was “South Pacific,” W ith isle magic and slender palm. So into the future, Whatever it be, We, Seniors, will face it, Class of 1 953. 9 N. Westbrook RAY AVERY We live but once, let life be free. Conference League. Our team played good, rough football and made all the teams remember our hard blocking and tackling. They played some very close games. Yale managed to edge out Cros-Lex by a pass to Clyde Bradley which gave them the score of 12- 13. The Varsity tied a game with Marlette which was a hard fought game between the two teams, but at the end it was a dead- lock 0-0. The team will lose seven Seniors: George O’Connor (HB), Jerry Hinski (LT), Dick Tinsley (LE), Jack Francis (C), Bob McDowell (LG), Bob Burch (RE), and Bob Kotch (RH). We, the Senior Class of “53,” wish next year’s varsity squad the best of luck in their season. Varsity Football Squad FRONT ROW: Bob Burch. Bob Perpingnon. Bill Elliot. Bob McDowell. Jack Francis. Forin. 59 Basketball Croswell-Lexington’s basketball team had its first look at the new league that was formed at the beginning of the 1952 athletic season. The caliber of basketball that was brought about by the new league was quite a bit above that of the old league. The Pioneers had a rough season losing most of their games by three or four points. Coach Frank Kern however was quite pleased with the team and everyone feels that the team was better than their record. The 1952-1953 basketball team was inexperienced as far as varsity players. There were only two boys on the squad who had played any varsity basketball; the rest of the team had only second team experience. Besides being inexperienced the team was made up of mostly Sophomores and Juniors, with only two Seniors on it. Considering all things the Pioneers basketball team did a great job of representing Croswell- Lexington High School. FRONT ROW: Bill Elliot, Jerry Hinski, Scott Beem, George Bartley, Bob Steele.
