All desire for knowledge leaves her as she drifts off into dreams of steaming pancakes and doughnuts. Obviously, Tamara lacks snap, crackle, and pop. as ,..-- , M..-fp gf.-as' '1i..igl-iw .,,4'Z',..,. -- .. .,.. HA-. .a,,,. And Then Again . . . The start of another terrible day, another terrible breakfast . . . your mother burned the toast again and the rest of the milk is on the floor. But it doesn't matter . . . you weren't really hungry any- way. Besides, you overslept and there's only time enough to drink the coke you left out last night. Today you can't find the energy to climb the stairs, you'll get lost on your way to lunch, acciden- tally lock yourself in your locker, and amaze your teachers with how exhausted you look. And to think it all began with a terrible breakfast. Band practice never was a high point of her morning, but today Tamara can't even bear the thought of opening her eyes. Getting to class on time isn't easy for Tamara as she decides to take a nap on the way. A locker isn't as soft as a pillow, but Tamara, in her weakened condition, hardly seems to notice. Several observa- tions were made from the results. For example straight legs jeans appeared in both of the top five fashions but it headed the list of most-remem- bered with 138 votes while the next one high heels only had 18 votes. Most of the top ten movies were fairly recent except for Jaws which is three years old. It was also discovered that many students could not follow directions or had difficulty in making one choice. When asked to circle one answer often three or four answers were circled. Here are the results: How s Your Love Life? . Mrs. Synthla Johnson custodian at CHS. 3. Mr. Joe Atwood custodian at CHS. The custodians at NHS and CHS are responsible for the maintenance of the schools at which they work Almost S10 000 was lost on food last year, according to Mrs. Sylvia Richard- son foods services manager for the Crossett Public Schools. This occurred due to the fact that not enough students ate in the cafeteria. This lack of interest in the food prepared at school does not reflect on the performance of the CHS cooks, Mrs. Fannie Clark and Mrs. Jessie Streeter. lt has been theorized that it is due to the fact that CHS and NHS students have the freedom of an open campus. A poll was circulated. in December, 1979, to obtain the opinion of the stu- dents as to a menu. It included a group of possible foods to choose from. There were also questions concerning the cycle of the menu. A salad bar and fruit juice box were optional alternatives in the poll, too. As a further compliance with the wants of the student body, Mrs. Richardson stated that several other things could be done. She mentioned such things as music decorations or change in seating arrangements. According to Mrs. Richardson, if the student participation regarding eating in the cafeteria does not pick up, there is a strong possibility that one or both of the high school cafeterias will be closed. Coach Bobby Richardson said that this year's team was average overall, and they could have done better if they had practiced more. He said, Success is determined by work and how many hours you run. The cross-country team began their regular practices when school started, but several members began working individually at the first of August. Dur- ing the season, the team practiced in different places - sometimes at the track, other times in the streets. The practices usually lasted from one to three hours. Besides finishing tenth in the state meet, the team won the El Dorado cross-country event. Jim King won several individual honors and meets this year and finished fourth in the state meet. They played Monticello and Lake Village twice each. They also attended a tournament at Southern State where they played Springhill and Camden. Their big- gest weakness was not sticking with it. They sometimes gave up too soon when they might have won had they stuck with it long enough. Their biggest strength was sewing and spiking. 2 'W ' IP E Volleyball iss Tennis The tennis team last spring competed in several tournaments, including the district tournament and the Southern State tourna- ment.
