Mary, a tall, slender blonde, is a member of the Senior Class, in the Homecoming Court, and a Teen Board Representative. Preparations for the Beta-sponsored event begin early in the year when two girls are chosen from each grade. After hours of rehearsal and anticipation, the girls present their talents and are judged on this along with their beauty. This year scoring close to Mary are Sonia Fox and Donna Newman, respective first and second runner-ups. The other court beauties included Penny McClesky, Diane Arnold, Elaine Paysour, Judy Hurley, Tv Lattimer. Teri Cadwell. and Sandra Blalock. 127

L)nir eu Carder and ' Jxodneu Jii ion During Citizenship Week, through informative speech- es, inspirational devotionals, and patriotic bulletin hoards, the Student Council aims toward building a stronger appreciation of our heritage, among the stu- dents. The climax of the week comes with the announce- ment of the school ' s Best Citizens, as chosen by the fac- ulty and student body on the basis of patriotism, hon- esty, and school participation. This year Shirley Carder and Rodney Hilton were selected as the Senior Best Citizens. Shirley and Rodney are truly deserving of this honor for they not only dis- play ideal citizenship but they also contribute to various school activities, such as Student Council and Chieftain Staff. Representatives from the other classes eleven through eight respectively are: Sheryl Kittle, Joe Dahm, Betty Bowers, John Balkcom, Barbara Block, Tommy Fields, Diane Arnold, and Pat McKinney. 128
