Beth Mosser was chosen as this year's recipient of the Outstanding Senior Vocalist award. 63 64 What homework??? D’ feet of DC! 65 Full Name: Astrid Jorum □ This Norwegian girl came to America with feelings of fear, jitters, and anx- iousness. She thought, “Oh God, where am I going?” When asked if America was what she had ex- pected it would be, she said, No, I thought it would be like the movie ‘Grease’.” The hardest thing to get used to was the food and our schedule of eating. She said that in Norway, for instance, they always eat homemade bread with different jellies and toppings for breakfast. Her first breakfast here was almost a ' shock. While in the states, Astrid got to see many of our tourist sights. Her favorite trips was to New York, but she also traveled to Florida, Washington, D.C., Arizona, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, South Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming. (More than most American see in a lifetime!) “People in America seem friendly. The kids are more independent and have more responsibilities than in Norway.” The two things she like most about our school system was that you can wear what you want and the homework is much easier. What she didn’t like was the fact that she had to translate everything and there was only three minutes between classes — “No time to visit!” In Norway she is done with high school. There are only nine years of school but she says they’re harder. She plans to start working this summer when she gets home. Astrid said the evening activities in Crosby are very different from those at home. In Norway the usual hangout is a disco or people’s houses. They don’t drive around or “cruise main. When asked what she looks forward to the most about going home, she said seeing her family and friends and going to the discos — back to dancing normal” again! She said that she will miss her new friends in Crosby and hopes to come back next summer to visit.
