“
Shaking off the lingering remnants of summer, you began the 1978-79 school year on Septembers. You passed through the front doors along with 180 other students into hot and crowded rooms (fresh from scholarly inactivity). You were greeted by. . .schedule changes, heavier books, II do :Dinmo 0 Then you began the traditional pattern once again. The pace never let up and it whisked you through another round of basketball games, noon meals, concerts, lyceums, and dance classes. 3 “ATTENTION ATTENTION:” Quiet down please. Just one question: Does anyone really know why we are here? I mean, what are we all together in this building tor? To recruit a football team? Nope. Find a date for the dance? Sorry. Keep up with the latest styles? I’m afraid not. Push aside the cobwebs and blow away the dust—Open your mind: To learn.” i I i | i oi iiwivu Despite the long hours put in, you still had time for yourself and friends, making this a year of anxious moments, as well as personal triumph 1A school is just a building until it is filled with the steady throbbing of student life. This was the year you filled it to capacity and beyong with that never relenting spirit of life nad colored it with 180 different, brilliant people. We are glad to be able to do this book for you, and we hope it meets your expectations. Back: L. Unhjem. G. Mosser. J. Woolfrey. Middle: S Wenstad, L. Windfaldet. K. Red- lin, T. Mosser, C. They kicked things off with Homecoming 78. They sponsored a whist tourna- ment and held a few dances. Actually, they did a pretty good job. Right? The DCHS Lettermen's Club is a newly originated organization. It's president is Suzi Kay Bakewell, vice president is Fane Ruppert, and sec.- treas. is Annette Walen. To start off the year, they had initiation for everyone, except Senior 2-year lettermen. Very little has gotten off the ground this year. With a club like this, things have to get better. One of the events was the pan- cake breakfast which is held annually. The ottier event was a trip to Fargo for a Key Club convention. Because the club was very enthusi- astic the year was a success. Offi- cers were Ray Ekness (Pres.), Ron Mahrer (Vice Pres.), Fane Rup- pert (Sec.), and Mark Feeney (Treas.). 35 DRAMA CLUB The Drama Club was under the direction of Miss Jane Braaten this year. She kept the club busy by directing two plays and taking one on tour. It was a super year because almost every- one got involved and worked hard. Sitting L. to R.: W. Schwanz, K. Cockrell, C. Coach Owen Stockdill and team gained lots of experience even though they didn't win a game. They showed lots of spunk, enthusiam and potential for the coming years. so GIRLS’ VARSITY The season started out well and sports review- ers thought so too as they placed them number one in the polls. The first loss was to Munich on the road trip. The season ended in championship of the Regional tourney with the third loss of the year by two points. But a proud team and town returned home. It must be that our lives are planned, ‘We have a time to go.’ May faith help us to understand what we can’t see or know. 60 GOLF l_ to R.: M. Graupe, H. Strong, J, Wigginton, B. Anderson, R. Sebolt. They were a young and inexperi- enced team but they still made Overbo's year a good one, by making it to State. 61 VARSITY CHEERLEADERS L. to R.: LuAnn Hesslebart, Annette Walen, Liz Nordstog. Sitting: Dave Anderson. Stals and managers play a very important part in sports. They keep things organized and help the athletes. Usually they don't get recog- nized for their work, but this year a special award was given out to a dedicated student manager. Dave Anderson was that manager. The award was given to him at the athletic ban- quet for his four years of unrecognized work. The athletes are sorry to see him leave. Redlin, C. Christianson, D Sandberg, L. Windtaldet. Fourth: J. It was a fun week but ended dis- appointingly when the DCHS football team lost to the Botti- neau Braves. Alleged food fighting and other distrubances ended by a party-goers’ speech by Student Council president, Charlie Nordstog, quite angered parents and teachers. Mr. Steve Joyal gave a good speech and Father Gavett gave the invocation and bene- diction and everybody went their separate ways. Two groups provided entertainment for the banquet — the DC Exchange and Total Darkness. 74 The Juniors put on an exceptional prom for the Sen- iors this year. Jericho was the band and the theme was Visions. As the 50 couples walked through the rainbow and the complicated Grand March, the spectators filled the gym and flashed their cameras. 75 HAPPILY EVER ONCE UPON Cast Cinderella........ Though hoping Rum- plestilskin can spin gold from straw, the Prince fears he may have to make the Enchanted Kingdom a tourist attraction. Cinderella resolves their difficulties by con- fronting her godmother and opening the Kingdom to writers who promise them royal- ties from their stories. Cinderella tries to match Goldie with Pied, but Goldie ends up with Jason instead. Red is disagreeable to Melba who zots her into the moat during the ball and then has words with Cindy and tries to carry out her threat, and fails, which wraps up the comedy on a serious note about creativity and its survival. 77 BACCALAUREATE Mary Anderson and Todd Anderson Honor Students 79 BEST OF'79 MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED......................................
