It was the first time since 1931 that Crosby went to state, much less won the CHAM- PIONSHIP. The Maroons were motivated by five rowdy male cheerleaders who took the state spirit award. Penny, Kristi, Suzi, and Chandra each were named to the District Top Ten, Northwest Confer- ence , and Oil Basin, and Penny was named to the All-State, second five team. Since none of the members had ever logged any playing time on A-squad, all the games were new experiences. In spite of this they gave us exciting and suspenseful games. After this year the team loses four seniors, but with experience under their belts we hope they will be just as good or even better. Under the coaching of Owen Stockdill they had some very exciting wins and a couple of very disappointing losses. They also won the B-Squad tournament in Flax- ton. All in all they will be something to look at in the future. 45 VfctMtfcy Che tfaad tS The Varsity Cheerleaders did an outstanding job cheering the guys on this year. The long hours of practicing, their sharp uni- forms and peppy personalities all added up to make D.C.H.S. PROUD to have them as OUR cheerleaders. 46 B-CqcW The B-Squad cheerleaders did a wonderful job sup- porting their team throughout the season. The boys also did well placing 8th. The climax of the season was the Oil Basin meet, in which the girls took 1st place, and the boys finished 2nd. Five tracksters qualified for state competition. They are Suzi Bakewell and Tim Mosser, high jump; Joan Woolfrey and Greg Oien, shot put; Penny Andrist, discus. 51 B. Anderson, J. Wigginton, J. Johnson, M. Feeney. M. Graupe, Coach DonOverbo. The D.C.H.S. Golf Team under Coach Overbo had a very successful season this year con- sidering it was such a young team. With only one returning from the state champs Coach Overbo led them to 5th in regional. With a young team we know they will be improving each year. 52 Stage BaiuJ Under the direction of Mr. Mor- lock for the first time, the D.C.H.S. Stage Band filled a busy year. Along with performing in the fall concert and the district music festival, where they received two stars, they played in the District Tourney and put on their own con- cert in May. They played a lot more different music than they were used to but put everything together for a good sounding group. 54 From 1 to r: T. Anderson, N. Hanson, J. Moe, D. Benier, D. Ouse. 2nd row: T. This was a year of big change for the D.C.H.S. band. One gets accustomed to a band director that's been teaching for 31 years, so when Mr. Bruce Morlock took over the music department, there was a hesitancy to accept all his new ideas. Compromises were reached, however, and the band got through a full year. Three concerts were put on, along with performing in the District Festival. Four small groups also played in the festival; a trumpet quartet, a clarinet quartet, a baritone solo by Jon Moe and a clarinet solo by Joan Woolfrey. Working with Mr. Morlock was a good experience for every- one and we’re looking forward to many more good years. Drum Major - Bryce Haugonoe D.C.H.S. Pep Band D.C.H.S. Marching Band 57 Chofo The D.C.H.S. choir, under its new director Bruce Morlock, put on three concerts this year. The special groups had a good year, sending a girls' trio, boys’ quintet, and soloist Annette Walen to the state music festival. The trio and Annette each received a star there. Besides these groups there was a mixed ensemble, girls’ ensemble and a swing choir. Girls’ Trio A. Walen. P. Andrisi, J. Anderson. from 1 to r: S. Lamontagne, B. Bacon. T. Granrud, L. Jardee, D. F.FA The F.F.A. had a good year this year. They started off with a slave auction in the fall, and sold fruit during the winter. They sponsored a pancake breakfast and held a Dance-A-Thon to raise money for Terry Roos. They attended a district con- vention at Mitchell, S.D., with Ron and Cyndi Stromstad accompanying as advisors. The Key Club attended Kiwanis meetings and helped with the spring clean-up. The week began with Show Your Colors Day and moved on with Hunt the Honkers Day. Dress-up Day, Hush Day and Fire-up Day. The nights were spent making floats and on Thursday the winner was announced. The Junior float won with their slogan Cream the Honk- ers.” Also on Thursday Queen Penny and King Dan were crowned as the Homecoming royalty. The climax of the week was the game against Kenmare when the guys pulled off a 26-6 victory over the Honkers. 70 71 Raymie Ekness Annette Walen Heidi Worley Marilyn Johnson Julie Anderson Don Anderson Jon Moe Penny Andrist Kristi Redlin Cindy Ege Renae Hermanson Harold McCarthy Steve Biwer Denise Sandberg Brenda Olson Sky Bentley Kate Landson Mrs. Landson Mrs. Ranch Mrs. Ranch Lane Burrage Dr. Hooker Loma Dottie Nan Emmeline Charlie Mr. Cordyce Mrs. Cordyce Nurse 72 A body which doesn't seem to stay dead is found in an old gun powder factory and from there on there is plenty of chilly trouble. The situation is further complicated because on that rainy night three nit wilted girls on their way to Berrydale a mental rest home, arrive with a strange Dr. Hooker who has lost his way in the storm.
