Song in the Wind , a musical comedy that mixed traditional American folk songs with the esapades of an aspiring young singer, was presented in the fall. The plot had Dori (Julie Ander- son), a folk singer, becoming involved with Ken (Stan Andrist), a cynical researcher for a recording company. The pair played out a comedy of errors, to the consternation of a music professor (Paul Wool- frey), who was trying to further Dori's career. Also mixed up ii the events was Dori's grandmother, Mrs. Forbes (Paul Stewart), who is an old sweetheart of the professor s. Other cast members included Jim Mosser, Marge Bloom, Janice Stromstad, Penny Andrist, Shane Olson, Reid Walen, Raymie Ekness, Cary Hegreberg, and Joan Woolfrey. 40 Arsenic and Old Lace Arsenic and Old Lace , performed in the spring, was a comedy centering around two old spinsters (Julie Anderson and Cindy Kress) who believed they were performing acts of mercy by raising their elderberry wine to dispatch a series of elderly gentlemen. Reid Walen starred as their adopted nephew Mortimer, Luann Jacobson as his sweetheart, Paul Woolfrey as the menacing unwelcomed nephew Jonathan and Stan Andrist as his sidekick Dr. Einstein. Other cast members included Cary Hegreberg, the uproarious nephew who believed he was Teddy Roose- velt, Buddy Lovick, Raymie Ekness, Bryan Dahl, and Fane Ruppert as the officers. Guy Sissler was the dead stiff. 41 The girls basketball team had a good season with a 13-8 record. They took 2nd place in District Tournaments which placed them in Re- gional Tournament play. They suffered a hard loss to Newtown which brought the season to an end. Penny Andrist and Chandra Torgerson both made the All Tourney Team at the District Tournaments. Penny also made Northwest Con- ference team. Chandra and Janice Stromstad both got honorable mentions. All in all Ms. Gohdes and her girls had a good season. Girls Varsity FRONT ROW L-R: L. Student Council members attended community meetings in favor of a Teen Center. The Student Council took a poll on the Teen Center and asked for different ideas that could be used. The Student Council also took a poll on smoking in the bathrooms. Most of the students felt that smoking in the bathrooms was not a problem but favored the enforcement of no smoking. The Student Council sponsored a sock hop and members M. Anderson, K. Redlin, M. Roberts, and J. Simonson went to a Student Council Convention in Grand Forks. 54 Key Club Striving to Help The Key Club had a very successful year carrying on many projects to help the community. For raising money, the club had its fund walk from Fortuna to Crosby. Over $200 was taken in, and part of this was pledged to the Northwest Chorus. A pancake breakfast was held, the club making $250 on this project. The club also delivered meals for the Meals on Wheels program during the month of February. Several members attended the district workshop in Morris, Minnesota in the fall. The club defeated the Kiwanis 20 - 0 in a touch football game for the right to hold the Key Club - Kiwanis travelling trophy. FRONT ROW L. TO R. - M. Roberts, B. Dahl, R. Walen, C. B-Squad Cheerleaders: L-R: Kathy Redlin, Nancy Fagerland, Julie Moe, Janice Grim, Rhonda Olin. 61 Pep Club Our Pep Club worked hard to help boost the DCHS spirit. We got off to a slow start but by the time girls tourneys came around our spirit was built up. The Pep Club worked hard. For activities, we made signs, put up a window display for tournaments, sold booster buttons, ordered two flags for the school, and as a special tribute to the Bi-Centennial, we read a passage about the United States at basketball games. This year was the best ever for school spirit in a long, long time. Bee-Centennial Minute FRONT ROW L-R: B. Hingst, L. Jacobson, M. Chaffee, J. Schwenson. ROW 2: K. Redlin, N. Fager- land, R. Anderson Boys’ Track This year's track team was small but their ability proved itself by outstand- ing individual efforts that brought us a second in the Oil Basin. The Maroons were well gifted this year in the weights with Rod Olin throwing the javelin and shot-taking first and second most of the time. The team had a good sea- son even though they did didn't have a well rounded team. FRONT ROW L -R: B. Lovick, B. Cary, G. Sissler, F. Ruppert, D. Larsen, L. Stenson. BACK ROW L-R: D. Murphy, T. We all enjoyed her alot. FRONT ROW L-R: D. Benter, S. Binde, D. Sandberg, P. Andrist, K. Redlin, T. Anderson, C. Bilstad. BACK ROW L-R: Asst. Coach, S. Sandman, J. Sorum, J. Moe, C. Torgerson, L. Junior Class President, Jim Mosser was Master of Ceremony. Pastor Harvey Nelson gave the Invocation and Benediction. Stan Andrist gave the Welcome and Phil Feil, Senior Class President, gave the Senior Re- marks. Entertainment was provided by Larry Welo, Kevin Holm, Julie Anderson, Jim Mosser, and Chris Trulson. Barry Hagen was the Speaker. It was a grand prelude to the Prom that was yet to come. ENTERTAINMENT: Jim Mosser, Kevin Holm, Larry Welo, Chris Trulson, Julie Anderson. 81 Stairway to Heaven’s Beginning The Juniors chose the theme Stairway to Heaven this year. They spent many hours on the construction and decoration for the enjoyment of those going to the Prom. 82 Jr.-Sr. Prom 1976 As Prom came nearer, time seemed to fly. Juniors panic as the date gets closer but they seem to be even further away from being done. Suddenly the evening comes. What takes eight months of planning is sud- denly only four short hours from being all over. The gym is a fairyland of streamers, long dresses and tux- edos, strains of music in the air by a band called the 'Uglies' and long slow dances. Now suddenly all that is left of May 15, 1976, are the memories of a Prom called 'Stairway to Heaven'. 83 Class Class Night of 1976 was the traditional memorable event. Julie Anderson sang the Class Song Theme from 'Mahogany' as the class walked in. The class will, history, poem, and prophecy were read and the awards were given out. Mr. Stammen presented Mark Roberts with a West Point appointment. Sheila Binde and Reid Walen both received $25.00 Savings Bonds from the Williston Elks Club. Kiwanis awards were presented by I. J. Jacobson to Janice Stromstad and Cary Hegreberg. The Senior Pom Pom girls were given pins from the Student Council by Mark Roberts. An- nual Awards were given to Laurie Jacobson and Paula Stewart. Paula also received the Betty Crocker Leader of Tomorrow Award. Mari Torgerson received the Ambrose Alumni Scholarship from Mrs. Wigginton. Karen Ege received the outstanding Business Student Award. The Pep Club presented the new school flag to Mr. Stammen. Sheila Binde received the Moose Scholarship. The Choir and Track letters were also awarded.
