Most memorable perhaps was the stirring win over the much larger Bottineau team for a Homecoming memory; and also the hard earned victory at Stanley. Coach Lemke ended by saying that, As I look back on the past football season, I really asked a lot of the boys; but I honestly think they gave more than I asked of them. 45 Maroon Quintet Finds 68-69 Season as Competitive, Troublesome, and Promising Back row: left to right--Coach Talley, D. '68-69 Basketball Season Looking back, I would say that we had four outstanding games this past season. The first was against Watford City, the first game of the season when we had a fine balance and thus outscored them 74-50. Against Tioga in mid-January we had five boys in double figures and a score of 82-53. Next in February, we defeated a strong Ray ball team 60-40. Our last fine game was at Rugby and with some balance and strong shooting we defeated them 60-55. Outstanding individual play this year came from a number of our boys. Butch Haugland had 36 points in the game against Plentywood and Lance Glasoe had 34 points and 18 rebounds against Ryan. Those boys having 10 or more points in a single game were: Ed Grim--22, Gary Sortland--18, Doug Overbo--16, Brian Engberg--14, Dean Thronveit--10, and Darrell Steffenson--10. In votes taken by the Team, Lance Glasoe was named captain, Butch Haugland most valuable , and Barry Christenson most improved.
