These girls are led by the cheerleaders in giving vocal support to the Maroon team during basketball and football games. They follow the team to schools many miles away from home in a spirit of interest and loyalty. It was extremely heartening to the players and the pep club members when Crosby had a tremendously large student representation at the Class A Northwest Regional Basketball Tournament at Minot in March. The pompon girls provided half-time entertainment at home basketball games, under the direction of their leader, Kris Haugland. Girls favor athletics at C.H.S. POMPON GIRLS: 1st ROW, B. Walen, D. October 3-7, Homecoming week, was a busy few days for students at Crosby High School. Float-building, campaigning, and skit-planning were the main activities. Darrell K. Shefstad was chosen Homecoming king by the student body from among the ten senior football players, after first narrowing the candidates down to three: Don Wenker, Chuck Heide, and Darrell. On Wednesday afternoon, the junior and senior classes each presented a skit to the student body, promoting their queen candidates, Pat McGahn and Carmen Lee, respectively. On Thursday evening, the traditional parade was staged, presenting the class floats, the new king, and the queen candidates, followed by a bonfire and pep rally at the fairgrounds. A junior queen, a senior 56 float, a winning team. On Friday night, the Maroon team met the Tioga Pirates on the football field, coming back with an 18-12 victory. Following the game was the Homecoming ball at which student body president Don Wenker announced the senior float, Polly Wanna Pirate, to be first prize winner and the junior float, We Smell De Feet, second. The moment everyone had been waiting for finally arrived; Pat McGahn was crowned Homecoming Queen 1966. 57 58 Dramatics stimulates creativity and self-expression The Junior and Senior classes each presented a three-act play during the school year. The Junior Play was called Jane Eyre, and was based on the literary classic of that name. Juniors in the play cast were Kathy Biel, playing the title role, Gary Wendel, Claudia Walen, Betty Christenson, Cheryl Stromstad, Brenda Lokken, Ted Lindseth, Barb Baertsch, Pat McGahn, Michele Brumfield, Linda Cowee, Jerry Grim, and Curtis Granrud. Both plays were directed by Mr. Paul Lokken. Carl Dahl, Jr. was student director for the iuniors, and Linda Olson for the seniors. The Senior production was a mystery comedy entitle, Home Sweet Homicide. The play cast included the following: Joan McPhail, Kris Haugland, Jim Sand, Bonnie Lervick, Larry Hector, Ron Hanson, Darrell K. Shef-stad, Ellen Thomte, Greg Haugland, Gene Hysjulien, Debby Tweed, Val Bummer, Rick Triplett, Bonnie Steffensen, Robert Larson, Linda Olson, Richard Grindeland, Ron Mabie, Carmen Lee, and Carol Weinschrott. Of course, many persons involved with make-up, scenery, costumes, and such were also essential to the success of the plays. 59 60 The Loveliest Night of the Year Prom 1967 ... the Junior-Senior Banquet... the Grand March led by the class presidents and their dates ...yellow, mint green, and orchid crepe paper streamers... formal gowns, tuxedos, corsages ... Dirk Odegard singing the theme song, Three Coins in the Fountain ... cameras clicking, bulbs flashing... young love... music provided by the Missing Links... the magic fountain ... truly a night to remember. 61 HONOR STUDENTS: Colleen Christenson, Bonnie Lervick, Laurel Norman, Phyllis Pederson, Ellen Thomte, and Eton Wenker. Mr, Borchert presented each of them with a special honor award. Graduation week began with Baccalaureate on Sunday evening, with Reverend Harley Frey as speaker. Tuesday night was Class Night, emceed by senior class president Darrell K. Shefstad. On Thursday, May 25, 1967, fifty three seniors walked across the stage to receive their diplomas from School Board President David Walen. They then marched on to the strains of Pomp and Circumstance, high school students no longer. 63 This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. It is rather the end of the beginning.
