Now these rights are being threatened by communism, and because of this we, the youth of today, are being asked to leave behind our carefree days to go forth to fight a cause for which we are not the culprits. VV e ask ourselves, are We ready? Before we are able to leave our homes and loved ones behind, we must secure not only physical but moral courage. VVe must have a faith in God, a faith in humanity, and a faith in ourselves. Again we askg are we prepared? Wfe are living in an unstable world and we have been reared in an atomic age, an age in which no man can feel secure. XVe. the graduating class of 1951, have never known a world of peace, love, and com- pliance. Is there any doubt that we ask. have we the strength? Wfith uncertain minds and pensive hearts we reflect on these questions. Eventually. to each of us there will come a way of overcoming lifes obstacles if we keep our faith in the true and righteous way of life. VVe shall realize that this period in our youth is only a stepping stone to a world ahead. VVe shall know that to have lives free from trepidation and consternation. we must willingly leave behind the lesser things in life to strive for that which is good. r' rsfl tim zlv' cl Un Puglffif: page eight The present world situation appears very grim, especially to the youth of America who are to determine what the final out- come will be. All the free nations regard America as the leading country in the world, and as such, lean on her for pro- tection and financial help. It must be remembered, however, that from all major wars something is added to the American ideal, the American way of living. From our own American Revolution comes the system of republican govern- ment which is the basis of our present America. From the bloody French Revolu- tion, Americans have learned and adopted the principles of Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity. Finally, from the two VVorld lVars, we have cemented firmly our demo- cracy, showing the rest of the world that a nation such as ours can, by its own power and freedom. conquer its enemies and rise to the great political, economic, and social heights that is America. At present. America is in a state of na- tional emergency due to the Korean Wlar. The present world situation may seem dark. but from every war something is learned to make the future a little brighter. The free nations now look to America for mili- tary and economic aid. I-low they will look to America in the future and the place America will hold in the future of the world will depend on the ability of her youth to learn something from every war. every mis- take. and use that knowledge for himself and his country. At our first class meeting we elected Dick Tibbetts as President, VVillie Paul as Vice- President, Betsy Noyes as Secretary and Ann Cole as Treasurer. As our Hrst money- raising project, we sold greeting cards. Later in the year, we decided to have a financial committee and look into ways of raising more money. This committee de- cided upon the best ways of raising money: a movie, dance, basketball game CBoys versus Girlsj and a food sale. There were quite a few Senior couples when we came back in September. Sally and VVillie, Dick and Mary, Curly and Tubby, Raymond and Delma, Red, and Lillian, and Russell and Betsy. These couples stayed together all year. After Christmas vacation the topic ques- tion among the girls were Have you seen Edith Eaton's diamond?', and 'KDid you know Isabelle Ilills is engaged? Soon, one ot our misses became Mrs. Celia Gross. Xlany of our seniors have received hon- ors this year. Betty Crosby was elected to receive the D. A. B. award, Darrell Payson was scut to Orouo to participate in the State Foul Shooting Contest, Linwood Star- rett was elected President of the Student Council, and Sally Brown was chosen to play a star part in Peg O' My Heart . Three of our Senior athletes were injured this year, and were greatly missed by Coach Troy. Curly Payson broke three toes and the top arch, Bud Smith tore some liga- ments in his knee, and Lin Starrett cut his toe with an axe. Our .lumor Prom IS scheduled tor May 18. Our class is very well represented in every school activity this year. During this year some very interesting things have happened to my fellow class- mates which, I feel is my duty to convey to you. l've been told that Phil S. is an at- traction to certain boys in the sophomore class., that those two roving romeosv Billy Gumm and Felix XVhitney have been mak- ing frequent trips out of town. Can it be that they are looking for girls, per chance? By the way, Faye WV. has been rushing around lately, too. And what would jean do if john ever got another-tgirl lriendj? Unless my eyes deceive me, was that john Carr climbing out ot Piper's cel- lar window? And would Nat M. 1'eally like to move to Rockland? Yes, sir, our class has just about every- thing! Of course there are a few things We dont have such as: XVe havenit any- Forests but we have YVoods Beef but we have a Hamm Skyscrapers but we have a Tower English but we have Dutch Good but we have Baird Soldiers but we have a Marriner Swords but we have a Spear Candy but we have Gumm Bain but we have Snow Natalie Marriner SOPHOMORE CLASS XVhat would Crosby do without its Soph- omores? No matter where you look you see the shining face of one of them. Name a sport-basketball for instance. The Sopho- mores have plenty of talent there with Mark Kapiloff, Roger Smith, David Cas- sida, Leslie LaFond, Keith Grant, Charles Hammons, Reginald Gilmore and Maurice Littlefield on the court. And donit forget the girls, junne Knight, Sally VVhitehead, ,Ioan VVoodbu1y, Pat jenness, Joyce Lin- coln, Frances Shortes, and the managers, Lois VVhitcomb and Norma Bradbury. .lunne Knight and Ioyce Lincoln help out the cheering section and Crosbyis major- ettes are all Sophomores. Bose Stephenson, VVinnifred Wfalker, and Lois WVhitcomb have all A's and Student Council members are Keith Grant, Melvin Perkins and joan VVoodbury. This year We Sophomores selected our class rings-in our opinion the nicest of all. Despite the date, Friday the 13th of April proved to be lucky because that was the evening of the Sophomore Hop. The boys themselves are anxious to get started, setting their sights on bigger things that lie ahead. There may be a chance at the crown again, as only two boys were lost by graduation. Now letis take a quick rundown on the games of last year. After three weeks of hard work, the boys, along with Coach Troy, were ready for the first game which was with Hampden. With Bud Smith pitching a marvelous game, the Lions were victorious in their opener whip- p.ng Charlie Gould and the Broncos-10-0. Linny Starratt gave up only four hits in the next game as his teamates pounded two opposing hurlers for ten hits and 13 runs. Cuniuzrled U11 Pam: in l l l l i 1 l l .
