GRADUATING CLASS OF 1980 THE TIMES WE SHARED — TRIP TO THE BAHAMAS: AN On August the 18th, 9 people from Crooksville, 2 from Athens and 2 from Indiana started their long awaited trip to Andros Island, Bahamas. They were: Mark Pontious, Rob Marlow, Lori Cavinee, Debbie Corp, Cinda and Lois Lunn, John Shonkwiler, Christie and Chuck Holmes (our chaperons) all from Crooksville John Locke and Gini Littler from Athens, and Kim Sims and Julie Wokshall from Indiana. We stayed on the island for 2 weeks, getting involved in snorkelling, scuba diving and going to points of interest. The scenery was beautiful and the ocean was clear and blue. We saw a lot of colorful fish and corals while in the water. A few of us had bad sunburns but it didn’t take long for it to tan. We can truthfully say we had an experience of a lifetime. After a long trip home we returned and our trip is now nothing but memories, happy unfor-getable memories. The girls' volleyball team are very happy about remembering their successful season for the 79-80 year. A total of 17 girls were involved in all the excitement this season held. Some of the best memories were in defeating Morgan, Maysville, Philo and especially Tri-Valley. The girls traveled to Federal Hocking for their Sectional Tournament. There they defeated Trimble and Miller to send then to the final game of the tournament. They gave Federal Hocking a true fight, but came out with a well earned 2nd place and many great memories. They ended their season with a 7-6 record ... a winning season!!! Everyone wishes next years team and these following let-terwomen a rewarding year to come, Beth Schooley, Janey Wood, and Carole Simmons. Left to Right: Kneeling: Janey Wood. Beth Schooley, Carole Simmons, and Miss Casey. Back Row: Lynette Allen, Teresa Russell. Mary Schooley, Barb Robison, Karen Spung, Kathy Yoder. Alice Taylor, Lori Cavinee. Jill Miller. Mert Nelson, Brenda Yoder, Kerri Cavinee, and Manager Lori Hammer. Absent: Cinda Lunn. FOOTBALL TEAM GOES ALL THE WAY TO FINALS. You-graduated too many good players, your seniors have very little skill. We’ll be happy with 5-5. Those sentiments reflected a great many fans at the beginning of the 1979 season. As the gridiron season began the Ceramics hammered a 14-8 win to wash up Muskies. Next an inspired, hot Nelsonville York team controlled the game for a 16-14 ‘victory. Once again C.H.S. romped over Tri-Valley with a score of 40-7. The Electrics did not realize there was an energy shortage as the Ceramics won easily 43-7. In the soggy, wet cornfield of Perry County. the Ceramics handed the Sheridan Generals a sound defeat. The showdown with the huge Maysville Panthers thrilled a packed stadium. Though Maysville led at halftime. C.H.S. fans will never forget the 8 minute. 17 play drive that shot the Ceramics ahead 13-12. The mud bowl featured the undefeated Morgan Raider team against C.H.S. with the Ceramics wet washing them 34-0! On to West Muskingum and another Ceramic victory 34-0. Crooksville and New Lex. an old rivalry and the same story — Red Black 27 — Orange Black 7. Against Riverview there were two strong teams and 4 too many minutes. C.H.S. fell in the last 4 minutes to end up sharing the M.V.L. crown with Morgan at 8-1. Up 1-77 to Dover Stadium went !the proud football fans in search of a 2nd state championship. But the top Mogo-dore Wildcats proved to be too much. The neversaydie Ceramics fell 23-0 and a very rewarding season finally ended. . TEAM DALE NEWLON GUARD BASKETBALL HAS TOUGH YEAR” The 1979-80 Ceramics finished their campaign with a dis-sappointing 5-17 record although they provided Crooks-ville fans with many exciting moments during the season. The team could have very easily been named the Hard-Luck” Ceramics, as they dropped eleven games by ten points or less with seven of them coming by less than four. The Ceramics once again advanced to the Sectional finals after downing Meigs Eastern 51-49 in their first tournament game, only to fall by one point in overtime in the championship game. Other C.H.S. wins this past year came over West Muskingum, Lancaster Fisher Catholic, and Philo twice. Senior Troy Vallee made the AII-M.V.L. team for the second year in a row, with David Ruff being named to the Honorable Mention team. The squad will have only 2 lettermen returning next year, and will have to find someone to replace the six graduating seniors Troy Vallee, Ken Browning, David Ruff, Marty Redfern, Bob Elliott, and Tom Dickerson. ROW 1: Bob Elliott, Ken Browning, Tom Dickerson, David Ruff. Marty Redfern, and Troy Vallee. ROW 2: John Gorby, Bob Browning, Brian Taylor, Tim Harris, and Mark Barringer. ROW 3: Brad Riley, Jeff Stover, Jim Watts and Kevin Spurbeck. SPIRIT IS RISING!! CHEERLEADERS GIVE SUPPORT TO ALL The 1979-80 Cheerleaders started their cheerleading season by attending 3 nationally sponsored cheerleading camps in the summer. All squads returned with ribbons with the Varsity capturing the N.C.A. spirit stick and megaphone and 9 superior blue ribbons. The girls carried out many of C.H.S.’s spirit traditions with pep assemblies, hat day, black red day, Lick'em day and the traditional bonfire. The Varsity and Reserve Cheerleaders used their cooking talents to feed the football team several Thursday nights and to cook an early breakfast for the tourney bound basketballers! Their money-making efforts were selling 1 stickers, badges, candy, pens and having several bake sales! The 1979-80 Cheerleaders are: Varsity: Barb Long, Cheri Willi-son, Connie Bowen, Kaye Kenny, Laura Fife, Jan White, and ALTERNATE: Tami Riffle. Reserve: Lisa Nicholson, Patty Addington, Kathy Wolfe, Lisa Buckley, Becky Wolfe, and Alice Taylor. Freshmen: Teresa Russell, Kerri Cavinee, Lisa Bowen, Lisa Thomas, Gina Hinkle, Diane Savage, and ALTERNATE: Lisa Bolyard GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM HAS A MUCH IMPROVED YEAR. The 1979-1980 Girls Basketball team had a new coach this year. His name was Joe Hatem. We had a much improved varsity team which was lead by Beth Schooley who was voted first team M.V.L., Mert Nelson who was given honorable mention in M.V.L., and Janey Wood who was also given an honorable mention in the M.V.L. A reserve team, which won 5 M.V.L. games, showed there was a great possibility for the future. The team was defeated in the finals of the Sectional Tournament by Eastern after beating Federal Hocking in the first round. The girls showed great talent and hope to have a more profitable year next year. There were two Seniors lost this year; their names were Kathy Yoder and Mert Nelson. They were both on the all M.V.L All Star team. Reserve team: ROW 1: Brenda Yoder, Barbie Russell, Bonnie Campbell, Lorie Allen, Dianna Baker. ROW 2: Joe Hatem, Jill Miller, Carole Simmons, Kathy McKinney, Karen Spung. Varsity team: ROW 1: Janey Wood ROW 2: Mart Nelson and Kathy Yoder. ROW 3: Lois Lunn, Beth Schooley, Lynette Allen, and Belihda Riley. ROW 4: Coaches Joe Hatem and Sarah Casey BASEBALL TEAM GOES TO DISTRICT This year was very rewarding for the Baseball team. The Varsity had a record of 15-10, their best record in recent history of 15 years. It was their second consecutive winning season and they were very proud. They became sectional champs and District runners up and most of all M.V.L. Southern Division Runners up. Every player showed great effort in making this year very prosperous. There was outstanding effort by Sophomore catcher Tim Harris, who hit .485 for the season. Also Scott Dillinger batted .403 for an outstanding season. Junior pitcher Bob Browning had a 7-2 record including a 1 hitter and two 2 hitters as the Ceramics went on in the year. There was four Seniors who made the M.V.L. ALL STAR Team. They were Bob Elliott, Ken Browning, David Ruff and Scott Dillinger. The Yearbook Staff would like to congratulate the Baseball Team for their hard efforts and to their coach Mr. Tubaugh for having such a great team.
