Crux-Hi-Skan of Crooksville High School EDITOR Rebecca Milligan BUSINESS MANAGER Mark Downey PHOTOGRAPHER Jim Morrison FEATURE EDITORS Mike Baughman, Betty Troyan ADVERTISING STAFF Susan Watts, Donna Tolley, Beth Allard EMERGENCY 0 , CROOkSVILLE FIRE DEPT We dedicate the 1961 Crux-Hi-Skan to the Crooksville Emergency Squad, in recognition of their great services to this community. For many years, the squad has rushed to the scene of any accident, night or day, and given of their well-trained services. Many residents of Crooksville owe their lives to the prompt action of the volunteers in this group. George Brannon James Matheny During this past year the squad lost two of its members, George Brannon, killed at his job, and James Matheny, killed in the line of duty with the Emergency Squad. Words do not always come easily to express gratitude, but we hope that by our dedication of this book, we can express our thanks to the members of this great organization. 2 Foreword To those of us who are about to depart this year, high school will soon be only memories--some happy, some rueful, some sad. To us this yearbook will serve primarily to recall good times and old friends. But to those who have yet more years of high school before them, this book, we hope, will serve as a guide. Many of the Seniors of '61 set records--in leadership, scholarship, and athletics. We hope that the seniors of future years will continue to set high standards for C.H.S. To our parents we hope this book will set down a record of the progress of our school. We have tried to show our school life as it really is--in classes, activities, sports, and recreation. We sincerely hope that this book will serve its primary purpose well; that it will recall all the memories of the past school year we have had together. We hope that you will enjoy the contents here-to-come. DELMER HOOPS A. C. LAWRENCE HOBART ALLWINE Board of Education GEORGE TEDROW CHESTER LEASURE BILL WELLER MR. WILSON Guidance Counselor MR. WORTHINGTON Superintendent MR. CONLEY Principal Administration Much of the success of Crooksville High School is due to the efforts of Mr. Worthington, Superintendent, and Mr. Conley, Principal. Mr. Worthington has been superintendent since February 1, 1951. Prior to his appointment as superintendent, he served as principal and as a teacher of World History. Mr. Conley became principal in 1959. He has served as coach for four years, seeing his team become M.V.L. champions in football for two years. For the past two years, Mr. Conley has also helped advise the yearbook staff. The position of guidance counselor is a new one in Crooksville High; we have only had this office for the last two years since Mr. Wilson joined our staff. His services include giving achievement and aptitude tests to all grades and aiding the students in college placement. We would like to thank each of these teachers for their invaluable help in making the last four years successful ones for this senior class and for the entire school. 7 RUTH ALEXANDER Mrs. Alexander's efficiency has kept the office running Sinoothly for the past three years.
