We Prophesy Girls' Industrial School Marysville, Ohio May 28, 1965 At a recent visit to the Girls' Industrial School, we had a chance to talk to three old members of the Class of 1955. As we listen, we hear: Mona: 1 hear from an old friend that Melvin Jadwin purchased a race horse and won the sweepstakes at San Anita! He is now one of the world's most famous jockeys. Ruth: Yes, and remember his old side-kick, Myron Orr? Well, he has replaced Mr. Worthington as Superintendent of the Crooksville High School. Avalyn: Has anyone heard from Barbara Colbert? Mona: Yes, she married Buck Fleming and lives in a big two room shack in the heart of Rendville. Ruth: Denny Harper, our old class comedian, has taken over George Gobel's T.V. Pro- gram. Avalyn: I read in the Detroit Gazette where the Hammer's Motor Corporation has just produced a new car that will run without gas, oil, water, or a driver. Mona: Carol Brown came to visit me last week and said she had married the big movie producer, Dan Campbell, and had just purchased their fourth Cadillac. Ruth: Maxine Shell, the famous Mambo dancer who has just completed her last lesson at the Dale Cook Dance Studio, is now appearing at the Frash Theatre. Avalyn: Robin Hoops, head photographer for the Roseville-Crooksville Messenger is now taking pictures of the Roseville state Prison. Mona: I received a letter from Myrna Harbaugh yesterday, who does washings and iron- ings for people to earn a living. She said that the people of the community were taking up a collection to buy her a new washing machine. She wanted to know if I would contribute to the fund. Avalyn: Dona Houk, the popular veterinarian from Crooksville, who operated on a French poodle owned by Gene Dalrymple, was sued for shaving the dog completely. Ruth: Shirley Eveland, star ice skater, is now replacing Sonja Henie. Jerry Adams is now ringmaster for Barnum Bailey Circus. Avalyn: Shirley Savage and her husband, Frank, now have a permanent job on the Denny Taylor Radio Program, and are the best paid m u s i c i a n s on the air. They get 25£ an hour. Mona: Jack Hayman, warden of the Roseville Penitentiary, was locked in Cell Block 11 during a riot caused by the prisoners. Ruth: Did you know that A1 Brown, head coach at Ohio State, has put Nial Williams in the line-up to replace Robin Freeman. Avalyn: You remember Earl Saunders, don't you? Well, he is now a great architect and is building a new portion on the Empire State Building so he can get a better view of the girls. Mona: Larry Wilson, the famous band leader, recently hired the Crazy Kids Trio, consisting of Dolores Sowers, Nina Snide, and Janet Snide, to record one of his latest compositions . Ruth: Norma Ewing, who won the nation-wide shorthand contest, is now the famous stenographer at the Harris Pencil Company. Avalyn: Norman McCray, who started from the bottom, is now president of the Standard Oil Company, and has hired his first two lady mechanics, Caroline Milligan and Shirley Hoops. Mona: Did you know that Jack Leaman who was clerk of Krogers Chain Stores, was recently promoted to manager. Ruth: Well, I guess there's no use talking about us, as we three will probably be here the rest of our lives. Under the capable direction of Mrs. Sowers, Miss Neff, Miss Houk, and Miss Heskett, the kindergarten and the first three grades learn to adjust themselves to school and begin to learn various subjects. Among their activities have been a choral club, a Thanksgiving play, and the decoration of a big Christmas tree. Mrs. Mears, Mrs. Worthington, Miss Calhoun, and the principal, Mr. Gannon, have guided, the fourth, fifth, and sixth grades through another successful year. The annual passing through the gate ceremony is looked forward to by many students especially those of the sixth grade. They will graduate from East School to Junior High School which is quite an accomplishment in their life. NORTH SCHOOL September 6, 1954 began a new school year in a remodeled schoolfor 197 boys and girls. The students at North School had been patiently waiting for such conveniences as East School enjoys. Mrs. Butts teaches kindergarten, while the next four grades carry on under the capable direction of Miss Weller, Miss Briggs, Mrs. Wilson, and the principal, Mrs. Sinsabaugh. The children are taught music by Mr. Solano. Annual parties at Christmas, Halloween, and Valentine were held and enjoyed very much by the children. The event the children looked forward to was the Open House which was held in November. The handwork of the children was displayed for the comments of their proud parents and the public. The fourth grade is looking forward to East School and what the future holds for them. The cry of some students is East School, here we come, but others are sad at the thought of leaving North School and the teachers they have had. Linda Heskett Crux-Hi-Skan As we look into the future we see many new hopes and dreams. We realize that soon we shall be leaving Crooksville High School. It is time for us to give our yearbook to you. We have tried to give a picture of life here in 1954 and 1955. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we have enjoyed working on it. We hope that, when time has flown and we are no longer young, it may bring you images of beloved faces and events and happy memories of your school days.
