CR I 'X-HI-SKA N - The Senior Story - Many of the classes of Crooksville High have boasted and quite justly so of their great athletes of their outstanding actors and actresses or of their talented songblrds We have some claim to all of these honors but few classes in the history of C H S have had a scholastic record to compare Wlth the proud M1d Century Class Last February at the Semor Scholarship Tests held in New Lexington the class of 1950 proved this book larmn Out of eleven members on our team six placed in the first twenty in Perry County Nmety seniors from all over the county competed Lois Darling was third in the county and first among thc girls Carol Hughes was close behind with a fourth in county competition and Jo Anne Bowers ranked 7th Ann Hull Jack Rarick and Carl Newlon all rated honorable men tions Our Crooksville team had more place ments than any other team in the county and the total score for the Crooksvllle students was more than double that of the next hlghest school This IS only one example of our special prowess Through our high school career we hive always been well represented on the winning l1sts in the state scholarship fest Many times we have led the s hool honor roll in students placed and we have always ranked high Enough of that' We shine out in the world of music too' For the past two years Ann Hull has gone to the district and state music con tests She has always made the first rating Carol Hughes made a first ln the district vocal contest in her Jumor year Carol Hughes Inge Blechschmidt Jo Anne Bowers Sally Heskett Ann Hull Jeannine been 3Ct1V6 members of the C H S Eard for over four years Oh the drums go bang anu the cymbals clang and the horns they blare away' Twelve of the glrls of the Cl ss of 50 and five of the boys have helped to make M R msey s and Mr Birds glee clubs and mixed chorus the best vocal groups in years As to masters of the grease paint art we have them aplenty Our dramatic talent got its first real tryout under the expert dire tion of M1ss Ewa Coulter when as Juniors we pre sented L1fe of the Party The story was 1n terestlng and the cast superb Our senior pro duction was a rlotous mystery Dead of the Night Under the capable direction of M1ss Carolyn Dlllehay the play was fiawlessly pre sented on May 12 1950 The between acts entertainment showed off some more of our musical and dramatic talent Unfortunately for us football and basket ball at CHS were in one of those periodic slumps during our Junior and senior years The classes of 49 50 and 51 were woefully wanting in athletlcally mlnded boys but our few athletes did their darndest and deserve loads of credit for sticking to their guns in the face of a parade of strong Muskingum Valley T eague foes Our senior football season was winless de- spite the hard work of our co captains Donny Trout and Gerald Hammer our galloping half back Trigger our big boy Porky our 1 and our Red Harding There Just werent enough of them and the hard trying Sophs were too little Our 1949 homecoming football game was the New Lex game here Our class was well represented by two of our most attractive girls Queen Sally Heskett and Attendant Dona Leasure They made an otherwise drab game rather colorful Fortunately our boys didnt always have to eat crow Six of them were members of the famous Un defeated Un tled Un disput ed Champions of the M V L in 1948 They were Trout Russell Harding Nelson Watts and Luman Jack Rarick was a manager that year Our basketball season was a series of heart breaks as our smaller boys fought all the way against overwhelming odds Don Trout ended a four year career as a Ceramic basketeer Now hes down now he s up Russell and Jay Harding furnished the backbone for our Cer amlc team For the first tlme in many years we had an all girl National Honor Society Ann Hull Jo Anne Bowers Betty Ann Channel Carol Hughes and Lois Darllng were the honored ones Like classes gone before us were active in s holastic activities such as Student Counc1l and Ifka Pres1dent of the Student Counc1l this year was Don Trout vice president Dona Leasure and secretary Jo Anne Bowers Lester Lucas vocal support Twelve senior girls Joined with the Juniors in putting over one of Ifkas best Washington Teas The executive committee of our class should not be forgotten for one minute They guided us through this money making era with an intelligent hand Thanks to them we hav? a lovely tour planned for our class trip une Jack R8I'1Ck President, Duane Watts Vice President Dorothy Watts Secretary Sally Heskett Treasurer Various factors have reduced our class from the 35 freshmen that entered senior high in September of 1946 to the 28 that received diplomas on the evening of May 31 1950 Leva Lewering Phyllis Pryor and Nellie Dunwoody have all transferred to other schools Leva and Phyl to Mount Vernon High and Nellie to Corning Delbert Spider Nelson prefers working at Sowers grocery to keeping com pany with us Delores Karr Iris Luster Mary Sparks and Ned Stalter have abandoned us for the blissful state of matrlmony Madeline Campb ll has crapp d back to the Junlor class and IS now working hard to promote their cause NINE?
