In 1952 he received his masters degree from Oklaho- ma University. Mr. Graham taught driver's education and coached football for four years at Crooked Oak. He served as prin- cipal here for fours before taking the position as superin- tendent in 1963. Mrs, Maxine Sutton is secretary to Mr Graham. Later he returned to C.O. to teach and coach football in thejunior High School. In 1963, he be- came principal of Crooked Oak High School. Mrs. Rosetta McKee is secretary to Mr. Strahorn. A good administration provided the necessities for a successful student Mr. King graduated from Oklahoma State in Stillwater. He came to Crooked Oak in the fall of 1965. Mr. King counsels and maintains grade records of all students. Mr. Gregory came to Crooked Oak in December of 1965. He was di- rector ofspecial services and aided in federal programs. Before coming to C.O. he taught for 40 years. He deceased in December, 1967. The main vroect of Patriotism Day, November T 1967, l . was the sending of an ice machine to the unit of Brett Hayes, who is stationed in Vietnam. Contributions, total- ing over 368100, were made by the student body. The Au- tomatic Ice Machine Company donated the remainder of the money, and a machine costing nearly 31,000.00 was pur- chased from that company. I00 International Language Club During the 1967-68 school year, the Crooked Oak High School International Language Club had meet- ings once a month. Requirements for membership in the club were: All members must have a C 12.05 aver- age. All officers must have a B C3.0j average or above. Members must have completed or be enrolled in their second year of language. Projects for the year included fund raising projects for both Christmas and Thanksgiving baskets. Crooked Oak is a member of the State and National Stu- dent Councils. Delegates were sent to the district and state conventions. The Crooked Oak Student Council also parti- cipated in the Inter-City Student Council. The student council sponsored Patriotism Day which was highlighted by sending an ice machine to Vietnam. The student council sold stickers to help boost the spirit of the student body during the Crooked Oak basketball tourna- ment. The first time the regular teachers stayed in the room while the student taught. Later the teachers were asked to evaluate the performance of the stu- dent teacher. Another time the club sponsored a coffee and cookie break for the teachers while the students were left alone to teach. He attended Conners A8cM for two years then joined the Navy for two years. Following his military term he graduated from Central State College in 1960. He has been assistant football coach and head baseball coach for seven years. Mr. Charles Hahn graduated from El Reno High School in 1949. He attended Central State College for four years. After graduating from College he joined the Navy for four years. Upon returning he became the assistant football and basketball coach for Crooked Oak High School. Mr. Leo Thurman graduated from Anadarko High School in 1955, where he lettered three years in football. ln 1956 he attended Bacone College for one year then transferred to Central State College. After graduating, he was assistant football coach at Carlsbad, New Mexico, for one year. In 1959, Mr. Thurman came to Crooked Oak as assistant football coach. ln 1961, he became the head coach of the track team. In 1962, he was named head football coach. During his reign as head coach, Mr. Thurman has compiled a record of 47 wins and 18 loses and 3 ties. Mr. Thurman said I have coached a lot of teams, but some of the boys I have coached here at Crooked Oak are the best I have ever seen. Mr. Thurman also teaches Driver's Education. Burkburnett 41-CO Q Plagued with mistakes and unable ti substain consistant drives, the Rufnex fell to the Burkburnett Bulldogs in th. opening game of the 67 season by 1 score of 41-6. CO. was only able to account for 114 yards total offense compared to 421 fo Burkburnett. The only bright spot ir the CO. attack was the punting game jones kicked 7 times for the average 0 40.1 yards per kick. The only Rufne: score came on a pass in the third quartei from quarterback Mike jones to enc johnny Harris for a 48 yard tally. Knowing that experience is the best teacher, welre now ready to tangle witl the Lions. Team suffers heartbreaking loss at Burk but bounces back to trounce Moore CO 33-Moore 6 Entering the game rated as the sev- enth best team in Class A, the Rufnex buried the Moore Lions 33-6. The offense finally jelled by picking up 195 yards rushing and 114 through the air. Quarterback Mike Jones passed 15 times connecting on 11. The stubborn defense held the Lions to 193 yards on the ground and no yard- age through the air. The alert defense also picked up five fumbles. The leading scorers at this point were jones, 213 Harris, 12g and Hager, 6. Turning in fine defensive performances were Drew Hayes, Chuck Arther, Steve Elkins, and Mike Deere. Lindsey 19-C0 7 Making up for a humiliating defeat from last year, the Lindsey Leopards bounced back to defeat the Ruf- nex 19-7. Lindsey went on to become the number two rated class A team in the state. All the Lindsey offensive power was displayed in the second quarter. They managed to penatrate the Rufnex defense for three touchdowns and take a 19-O halftime lead. The Rufnex defense shored-up some of the first half holes and denied the Leopards another score. The Rufnex only score came in the fourth quarter on a 17 yard pass from quarterback Mike Jones to Rick Mclntirejones tacked on the extra point for the 19-7 score. An Anadarko ballcarrier is smothered by Crooked Oak defenders Gary Bastin QZZJ, Dwight Beats 1255 and Steve Elkins Q4-U, CO 20-Anadarko 14 Displaying a potent first half offense, the Rufnex downed the Anadarko War- riors 20-14. The Homecoming crowd witnessed a crushing ground game which both teams rambled from one end of the field to the other. The Rufnex displaying a fine offense the first half sputtered in the second half and couldn't get a scor- ing drive started. The Warriors rallied in the second half by intercepting a Mike jones pass and rambling 61 yards for a touchdown. Minutes later Don Kelin, the Warriors quarterback, sneaked over one from three yards out for the final score of 20- 14. Dwight Beats shrits right end for long gain with good downs field blocking. CO 41- Carl Albert Displaying their best offensive effori so far this year, the Ruf-nex posted a de- cisive 41-6 victory over conference foe, Carl Albert. C.O.'s ground game accounted for 305 yards, the best output up-to-date. Quarterback, Mike jones, accounted for 35 points, 30 points by touchdowns and 5 by conversions. The other tally was chalked up by Sophomore, Dwight Beats. l The Albert defensive jarred the Carl Albert Titans loose from the ball three times and was able to recover the fumble on each occasion. The leading scorers at midseason were: Mike Jones, 653 Dwight Beats, 123 johnny Harris, 12g Rick Mclntire, 12g and jim Hager with 6. Rufnex revenge onl '66 conference loss by bombing Carl Albert 41-6 Chicks 45 - CO 28 Friday the 13th proved to be a jink for the Crooked Oak Rufnex as they suffered their third loss of the season to the Chickasha Chicks 42-29. Five times during the contest the lead changed hands. The Rufnex held a 29-28 lead entering the final period, but on their scoring spree to gain their fourth victory of the season against two defeats. Most of the Rufnex scoring came early in the first quarter, as Gary Bastin recovered a fumble and carried it across from the two to give the Rufnex a 14 point lead. But Chickasha came back to tie it at halftime 14 all. Despite the fact that the Rufnex were able to pass the ball over two more times, the Chicks came back with equal performances handing the Rufnex a bir- ter defeat in the final period. I32 RUFNEX defenders close in on Chickasha ball carrier. 20 42 - Choctaw 20 The Crooked Oak Rufnex outscored 'he Choctaw Yellowjackets 42-20 to Jost their fourth victory of the season Friday, October 20 at Choctaw Stadium. Mike jones engineered the attack and Lccounted for the Rufnex scoring with 'he display of fine running ability. Crooked Oak took the opening kick- mff to the Choctaw 45 yard line before Jeing halted on downs. The Yel- owjackets wasted no time in scoring by narching ahead to the first score of the game. Still determined, the Rufnex gparkled on the following kickoff with L 45 yard kickoff return by jones. After 'hat it was jones scoring first on a 16 lard run and later in the first half with a 76 yard punt return and a 95 yard gallop. Choctaw scored once again on the ast play of the half to trail 21-14. Coming back the second half, the Yellowjackets were again the first to acore, but the Rufnex came back with a inet performance to double their score. Twice in the third period, it was lones. With the game sewed up, split- :nd john Harris added icing to the cake with a scoring pass from jones in the iinal minutes. Both offensive and defensive units pvere to be commended with excellent berformances by Hager, Bastin, and elarris offensively and Deere, Wilkerson md Arthers defensively. Jones honored as Times ffBaek of the Week CO 57 - Sulphur 0 The Crooked Oak Rufnex proved to be an explosive team by whalloping the Sulphur Bulldogs, 57-O. The Rufnex offense dominated the game by scoring at least one touchdown a quarter. The Rufnex attack was led by Quarterback, Mike Jones, who scored three times, and threw four touchdown passes. Ends, Bo Hager, and John Harris turned in fine offensive performances. The Rufnex defense did a fine job by shutting out the Bulldogs. Fine defen- sive performances were turned in by Chuck Arther, Mike Deere, and Mike Roby. The Rufnex now stand 2 and 1 in conference play with just one game re- maining with Pauls Valley. Rufnex defenders close in on ball carrier, Clinton 50 - CO 20 The Clinton Red Tornadoes proved to be number one in the nation as they rolled over the Crooked Oak Rufnex Friday, November 3, with an over-powering 51-20 victory, Clinton's james Williams ran for three touchdowns to pace the Clinton team. Wil- liams darted 67, 24, and 10 yards for scores while teammate Roy Bell rambled for two scores and Larry Colbert and Mike Truck picked up one touchdown each. With the score 51-0, Crooked Oak scored three times to close out the lopsided match. John Harris got the first one on a 70 yard pass from Mike Jones, and Bo Hager picked up the others on 10 and 35 yard passes from Mike jones. Two crushing defeats dash Rufnex hopes of state title Pauls Valley 69 - CO 39 The final football game of the season ended in defeat for the Rufnex Friday, No- vember 10, as the Pauls Valley Panthers frol- icked for a 69-39 victory over Crooked Oak. The Panthers took the lead early in the game with the scoreboard showing 19-0 at the end of the first quarter. Crooked Oak came back to score twice in the second quar- ter. The Panthers also scored twice in the sec- ond quarter giving them a 33-13 lead at half. Second half showed the Panthers roll 36 more points with Crooked Oak adding 26 to the scoreboard. The victory for the Panthers placed them second in the state A confer- ence, behind Lindsay, holding the number one spot.
