DRENNAN, Superintendent A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT For the past six years, we have had an extended building program in progress. Although much of this has been on the grade school level, construction was started this year on a new high school building. I share with you the feeling of pride that you have in the Crooked Oak Schools. The Board of Education and the patrons feel that an in- vestment in facilities which provide increased educational opportunities for the youth of today is a wise one. In no other way can we insure that the best will come from our greatest resources - our young people. It is my hope and belief that our school will make a significant contribution to the finest aspects of American citizenship for those young men and women privileged to take advantage of the many opportunities to learn at Crooked Oak. OUR PRINCIPALS S PEA K Our hope is that through your associations with each other in your own school, with your teachers, and with other friends and neighbors, you may have grown in the accumu- lation and understanding of knowledge in the social graces, in the ability to get along with others, and in the desire to do something worth while. We hope that this yearbook, The Roughneck serves to cement our friendship, promote unity of purpose, and de- velop a rapport within our faculty and student body which will result in a climate conducive to the perpetuation of the highest ideals. May it always be a symbol of good workman- ship, of devotion to our country, and of an intense desire to learn. Dixie Smith George A. Cheek, Jr. 1 if xx.. L..-X FM: Hi. Y' There comes a day when most students wish they knew more of the items stressed by English teach-, ers, Mrs. Florence Payne, Mrs. Maurine Ihrig, Miss Betty Kirsch, Mrs. Wilma Humphrey, Mrs. Edith Flood, and Mrs, Evelyn Hickman. Vocal music is a terrific force among C. O, students, and Mrs. Mar- garet Johnson's efforts are sincerely enjoyed and appreciated. An invitation to reading is enhanced by the attractiveness of our library, thanks to Mrs. Ruth Helen Kiser, library director. Wide tables, com- fortable chairs, perfect lihting, and the open shelves where a student may browse for a selection, make an hour spent in the library a tonic for dispelling a day's rough spots.
