I hope it will bring you pleasure. This annual will serve as a link between you and your school - a link based not alone on amusing memories, but also on things of intellec- tual and moral significance. This book will record deep and binding friendships of your school life. Each school year is a link in a chain, which, when completed, will be your life as a student in the Crooked Oak Schools. You have al- ready welded a number of links - one of them you are just finishing. Are you sat- isfied with it? If all the links which you fashion are like the one labeled 'I955', what kind of chain will you have? How much real progress have you made since Sep- tember I954? Are you a better citizen of your home, of your community? As your Superintendent, I feel that we have had a fine school year. I can com- mend, without reservation, our faculty and student body for a fine spirit of coopera- tion and loyalty - a spirit that has been most gratify- ing to our fine board of education and myself. The spotlight was turned to Dorothy Pendley when she was crowned Football Queen for the i954 season by Team Captain, Bob Orr. Mascots, Gayle Ann Burton, Carolyn Wynns, and Cindy Parker seem to be wondering why Bob Orr and Dorothy Pendley are so sad. Could it have been because we were on the short end of the halftime score? The score, as shown on the new Crooked Oak Scoreboard, was not indicative of the way our team played bull during the homecoming football game between Crooked Oak and Northeast High School. 3lI 1 4 l s f' W.,- ,l s iii The crowning of the Carnival Queen was the highlight of the Junior Carnival. To stimulate interest in teaching, a merit system was initiated whereby one merit coulcl be earned for each hour's teaching or super- vision of children. That the teaching profession is not all work was verified by the five members who attended the Oklahoma Education Association when it met in October. The Library at Crooked Oak High School is fast becoming a standard library because of the fact that all books are fast becoming catalogued, comfortable furniture has been made available, current magazines are subscribed for and placed on a rack for student use, recent reference books are checked out to students on request and recent interesting fiction books are added monthly. One of the most valuable assets to our library is our student librarians. While one group of students works at the desk checking out books and helping Students find information, another, under the supervision of Mrs. Kiser, keeps infor- mation on the bulletin board current, types and files, prepares new books for circulation, keeps magazines in order and checks on overdue books. The Oak Leaf's purpose, to keep students well informed of all activities pertaining to school life, was very diligently carried to a successful fulfillment by members of the iournalism class. Many hours of hard work and concentration were spent on each issue. To improve the quality of this year's paper, a group of students attended a clinic sponsored by Oklahoma University. They brought back with them an ample supply of 'know how on the pub- lication of a school newspaper. We feel that each member of the staff should be given a vote of thanks for the fine paper we have had during this school year. 746 564006 Zan 1954-'55 Co-editors Dorothy Pendl d G study some of the stories ffdlm lfhle Oairflhf Tennyson . , I ea sc b k to get ideas for improving quality of our new::Fapc:f.
