'. 0 Class H1story In the fall of 1946 we entered Cromwell H1gh School as unlettered wamfs from throughout the terrxtory of Sparta Townshrp Thrrty one of us met the second week of school to orgamze our class Mrs Grace Lasley was selected as our sponsor Our class off1cers were Dorothy Baker Pres1dent Joan McLallm V1ce Presxdent and Sue Kalb Secretary The b1g event durmg thms trymg year was the dreaded 1n1t1at1on All of us survxved the shock and soon adjusted ourselves to hxgh school 11fe Marxlyn Maggart and Nancy Halsey came from Syracuse to bless our class wxth thexr presence Durmg the year Martha Leshe dropped out of school and Karl Tague moved to Huntmgton All of us managed to survzve the Freshman year and moved on as Szlly Sophs ln September 1947 we returned to our studxes wrth a feelmg of supenormty over somebody namely the Freshmen For our offxcers we elected Bob bnowberger Presmdent Boyd L1nn V1ce Presxdent and Dorothy Baker Secretary Arthur R Loveless was voted sponsor We had quxte a t1me gettmg the Freshmen off to a good start mn the1r hxgh school career Our wxsh was that our treatznent of them would not leave perm anent scars We d1d our best to put them 1n the groove Our chests d1d a great amount of expandxng when the beautmful green sweaters we had ordered arrxved It was saxd that some even wore them to bed Mr Loveless coached us 1n three one act plays Everyone m the class was mcluded 1n the casts We gave the plays to a good crowd and they were a huge SUCCESS The Sophomore year came to a close rather uneventfully except for the loss of a port1on of our class Betty Lou Elhott Ester Lawson Jack Kreager and Pat Leamon left us to follow other pursuxts The Jolly .Tumor year was started w1th two add1t1ons to the class Melvere Sheley Jomed our ranks comxng from Lxgomer Roger Ott also Jolned our class commg from North S1de Hxgh School 1n Fort Wayne Eleanor Vxmng was chosen as our sponsor and the class off1cers were Ioan M Lallm Prcsxdent Ronald Szlveus V1ce Pzesxdent and Sue Kalb Secretary 12 . - I . D . - 1 ' 1 1 ' 1 1 The Junior year was loaded with activities The first week of school we ordered our class rings On November 10 we gave two plays Wildcat Willie in the Doghouse and Who Gets the Car Tonight to a capacity crowd The plays were a huge success Preparations for the reception were started before Christmas with the heavy work left until spring The reception was held at the Pubhx Cafe in Kendallville on April Z9 After the banquet we Jour neyed to Fort Wayne to see the stage play The Barretts of Wimpole Street at the Civic Theater Nearly everyone found the way home rather long but we all managed to get there 1n time to do the chores Saturday mornmg For the Senior return the Seniors took us to Pokagan State Park for a ham dmner and an outing This crowded year ended with all of us in good standing Patty lden left us at the end of the year to become a housewife week of September and organized our class Eleanor Vining was chosen as sponsor again Edgar Joe Earnhart was elected President Bonnie Lou Conner Vxce President and Joan McLall1n Secretary for this our Senior year The first class activity of the year was an outing at Turkey Run State Park We had a perfect day to enjoy the natural beauty of one of our beautiful state parks The day which started at 4 00 in the morning and ended at 9 OO in the evening will never be forgotten by the Seniors It was decided early in the year to publish an annual This seemed like a big project but it seemed very worthwhile Doris June Prentice was elected as editor Bonnie Lou Conner associate editor and George Umbaugh art editor During the first semester we had our pictures taken ordered commencement announcements and name cards Early in the second semester we started to think about the Senior play.
