AN fo I' Q A s M fff WW Qfj,?fWl MMM MMMQ f MW' Www Z S mow WW Jfffffi wwiigggle, S S'CZaoo' The Class of '54 will become part of Crofton High Schoo1's past in a few weeks--but it was fun while it lasted--a four-part story of comedies and study. The Senior Class of '54 entered Crofton High ir1 September of 1950 with 36 faint-hearted students who walked into the high-school assembly and wereimmediately tagged FRESHMEN. Superintend- ent Ubben was our sponsor. Later, we elected Mike Norris-President, Junior Mischke-Vice-Presi- dent, and Melba Nohr-Secretary Treasurer. Our president, Mike Norris moved from Crofton by the time school ended. Not much happened that year except a class picnic in J anssen's pasture. Three months later We again walked into the assembly with a little more confidence but this time as SOPHOMORES. We elected Junior Mischke-President, Jim Wortmann-Vice-President, Bob Lockman-Secretary, and Rosemarie Mueller-Treasurer. The coach, Mr. Bruce, sponsored a delightful masquerade party in the school gym, and a refined picnic at the Chalk Rocks, Eight members of the class were waiters at the J unior-Senior Banquet, and they received a preview of what we were to organize and finance the next year. Three months later We were J UNIORS, and by this time the class had dwindled down a little. Four others joined us. They were Alice Scheafer, Carol Willenbring, Arlen Walters, and Kenny Sage. The Hermsens be- came our sponsors, Rose Marie Mueller-President, Rosemarie Meyer-Vice-President, Darrel Hofmaier-Secretary and Treasurer, and LaVernJensen-Second Semester Secretary and Treasurer. We put on the most financially-successful class play presented in the Crofton Auditoriumg and a beautiful Junior-Senior Banquet in the school gym. That night we lived in the Gay Nineties, were served by sophomores wearing derbies and mustaches, and were also entertained by a barber-shop quartette, who made up in enthusiasm, what they lacked in harmony, Three months later We again walked into that school assembly--we were a changed class- smooth, intelligent, and socially superior. We chose Junior Mischke-President, LaVern J ensen-Vice-President, Dave Couchman-Secretary, and Alice Scheafer-Treasurer. Our sponsor was Principal Cory. Arlen Walters, Kenny Sage, and Donna Doering left school but Betty Trenhaile, Bonnie Lenzen, and Marlon Smith took their places. Many things happened-- the freshmen learned to know and respect us dur-ing initiation, we bought class rings and pictures, gave school parties, a class play, went on a Sneak Day, made an annual, and wereguests at our last Junior -Senior Banquet. Last but, not least, we received our diplomas. The four years went by almost too fast and in a little while, we will graduate from the best years of our lives. A iflmzdyeo We, the Seniors of 54 realize that the last four years have ended so we wish to will to the faculty our regular habits and excuses which we are so good about bringing from home. To the Juniors we extend the right to accept or reflect all carved and battered desks, and our Senior dignity and superior intelligence. To the Sophomores we will our ability in long arguments that never get us anywhere and our dislike for getting down to business. To the Freshmen we will our fondness for coke and chewing gum and our skill in hitting the waste baskets with paperwads. I, JEROME BERENDSEN, will my ability to get along withMr. Moline to the Freshman Class and my plumbing tools and knowledge to any one who wants it. I, DARLENE BOARDMAN, will my most treasured possession, my blond streak fl part ammonia and 3 parts proxidej to John Roberts and Glen Smithg will my drivers license to Jerry Steffen fto prevent further misfortunesj. I, LEO BOECKER, will my green pickup to Ewald Boeckerg my ability to get good grades without studying to Alvin Trampg one of my wavy hairs to each student and to each teacher: and my warm seat in the assembly to some one with a cold cold heart. S ' Hjfwgpfwcy, We, the Junior Class, being interested in the future of the Seniors of 1954, have consulted Madam Itu to predict the fate of these Seniors. We present to you her fateful words and then leave it to you to believe or not. First come the two SCHIEFFERS, TONY and LOREN. They own and run the Bloody Pulp Cafe where they serve your steaks and meat the way you like them. lt is located on 8th and Green Streets, Crofton, Nebraska. ROSEMARIE MEYER is employed by her husband as his private secretary. The only rea- son she works is because he is too tight with his money. On the rest resort at Gavin's Point Dam, MISS DENELDA SCHIEFFER is employed by the U. S. Government. She teaches swimming to lower the death rate from drowning. ROSE MARIE MUELLER is selling a new type lipstick. This is a kind that will not smear or rub off. One tube is guaranteed to last at least five years for any young girl. IRMIE GOELLER is now a famous song writer. Her most popular hit is Dear Ralph , MARLON SMITH certainly has made good use of his whistling ability. He is the director of the Whistling School in Elk Point, So. Dakota. Could it be? DAVE HOLTZ breaking horses for his Uncle Ray at Aten. ROBERT LOCKMAN is a successful football coach at Harvard University. Bob is certainly putting his football ability to practice. Crofton can be proud of a '54 graduate, MERINA GUENTHER, who is a well-known author. Her most outstanding book is Danny Boy . La VERN JENSEN is now editor of the Lindy Daily News . In the hills of old Tennessee a pert 65 year old school marm is beating heck out of little Willie Windjammer, We see that it is BETTY TRENHAILE. BONNIE LENZEN is now master of ceremonies for Auntie Bonnie's Kiddie Time Show. Captain LEO BOECKER is head of the New York Police Department. His last case was the rabies epidemic, JEROME BERENDSEN is the inventor of the dripless faucet. He just demonstrated it in Hayville, Louisiana, We have just found out where JIM WORTMANN can be located. His product is Davey's Special Blend, JUNIOR MISCHKE now Mitch Mischke is appearing in 20th Century Fox's production, Gateway to Yankton . MELBA NOHR has invented a new hair dye, called Dye it Pink ! DARLENE BOARDMAN is, as expected, an ideal housewife. Her husband, an officer in the Air Force. We are having no trouble in our military leadership, because LOIS ANN GUENTHER, is raising little Leaders for the U. S. Armed Forces. CAROL WILLENBRING and DOROTHY KAISER are riding in their '29 Ford searching for eligible bachelors on the loose. Good Htmting! We bring out the school colors for our first football game with Verdigre. Seniors order class rings. We play our second game at Newcastle. Sophomore class put on their picnic duds for a hayride. A world traveler gives us his imprssions. at our 'first assembly program. Football game at Wayne Prep. County Government Day--juniors go to Center. Teachers are welcomed at a reception in the auditorium. Freshmen earn their title at initiation. Football game with Randolph Seniors sponsor an all-school dance. End of six weeks--students shrink at the thought of their first report cards. Football with Winside. Assembly program on electricity. Class, sports, and club pictures are taken. Freshmen celebrate their entrance into high school with a hay ride. Juniors go on skating party--no casualities except a few bruises. We go to Wausa for football. Teachers Convention--no school. Osmond arrives for a football game Juniors make a hit with their class play. We are entertained by an assembly program of music and dramatics. End of second six weeks. Thanksgiving holiday--we gave thanks for a short vacation. We play our 'first basketball game with Coleridge. Football boys attend banquet in Yankton. The Glee Club with the help of the grade school puts on a Christmas program. Sighs of relief--the beginning of Christmas vacation. Back to school again for the new year. Assembly program--a magician entertains us with his disappearing acts. Schools get together for Knox County Basketball Tournament. An assembly program in the form of marionettes comes. Class C. District Tournament at Harrington. Student Assembly Program. Student orators participate in local speech contest. Sophomore skating party. Intramurals--our last basketball. We are entertained with our last Assembly program for the year. Gifted speakers go to Disn'ict Speech Contest at Wayne. Senior Class shows its ability by producing the Senior Play. Glee Club goes to District Music contest at Wayne. Easter vacation at last. Athletes put on track shoes for district meet. Baccalaureate -Seniors are serious as they realize this is their last year in high school Commencement--Scholarships, awards, and Qmost importantj diplomas are given.
