May 26, 1964 The story of the senior class of 1963-1964 began to take form twelve years ago. It was in the au- tumn of 1952. A bewildered group of lads and lassies were we when we entered the halls of our Alma Mater for the first time. Mrs. Maxwell and Mrs. Griffin guided us successfully through that long and dreary first year. It was difficult to adjust to the ways of a pupil. We had trouble sitting still, paying attention, studying, and most of all, getting up early in the mornings. This took quite a while to get used to and after twelve years many are still adjusting to that minor discomfort of school. As the seniors of 1964 entered the second grade, we felt a little bigger and surer of ourselves, and so very proud that only eleven more years lay ahead! Mrs. Easterly and Mrs. Faver carried us through that fast second year and before we knew it, we were sitting in the third grade, looking into the faces of Mrs. McLean and Mrs. Barclay. The fourth grade brought Mrs. Schmidt and Miss King and second floor classrooms; however, it was in the fifth grade under Mrs. Skipper and Miss Hassell that we realized that the teachers on the second floor really meant business. Our sixth grade year proved most interesting of all after a fashion. The girl haters suddenly chang- ed into gentlemen and quite a few big romances were started. Cupid's arrows, Mrs. Carpenter, and Mr. Dailey helped make that year quite interesting. In no time at all we were in the seventh grade. Mr. Parks and Coach Hoskins showed us through the challenging seventh year. Finally, when we reached the absolute summit of elementary school days, we received the distinc- tive name of Crockett Junior High Bullpups. We were really the Big Dogs, taking over the PUP’S HOWL. We really ran the joint for one brief year and memories of eighth grade commencement will always remind us of our first eight years of our twelve year journey which is so rapidly drawing to an end. We were now in Crockett High School with the big guys. Oh, to be so high to fall so low! Although lost at first, we soon made a place for ourselves in C.H.S. Under the guidance of Mrs. Deauman, Mr. English, and Mrs. Moore, our class chose and presented Twilight Time. Our freshman year was sad- dened, however, by the loss of a dear classmate, Terry Paxton Knox. An outstanding member of our class, loved by his friends and classmates, Terry will live long and always in the memory of those who knew him. Our sophomore year brought adventure and studies galore to our class as well as sponsors, Mrs. Patton, Mrs. Julian, and Mr. Ferguson. It was this year that the freshmen presented Blue Hawaii for the Fresh- man-Sophomore Party. We arrived on the threshold of our junior year anticipating the events the year was to hold in store for us. Our sponsors were Mrs. Hazlett and Mr. Sanders. It was in April of that year that our class presented Our Town, and on May 10th that the best prom ever” came about in the Memorial Building as the Sen- iors of 1964 presented Red Sails in the Sunset, a wonderful night to remember. So it is that at last we have become seniors. For this, our last year, activities have been a vital part of our class. Our sponsors are Mrs. Patton, Mr. Crouch, and Mrs. Heard. Our class has been well repre- sented in all sports as well as interscholastic league literary events. Only recently the Juniors presented us with a night to remember and a prom Over the Rainbow. Also fresh in our memory is our Senior trip to Six Flags Over Texas as well as many parties and gala activities. Each and every member of our class has made plans for a bright future, and now, as we look back to scan the slated records, we view with pride the things we have accomplished, and with disgust the things we have failed to achieve. On May 28th, we will become the ninety-second graduating class of Crockett High School. We look ahead with happiness and bewilderment, with new ideas and shining dreams, with a great eagerness for the world and the riches with which life can bless us. Yes, we are leaving just as we entered those twelve, so very short years ago. Our whole lives through we will remember these golden hours we have spent in the halls of our Alma Mater and we'U always remember too that; Living and Loving, we want and give more because we are the seniors of Crockett High School of nineteen hundred and sixty-four.
