SENIORS Class History In early September, 1950, many anxious, shiny-faced boys and girls entered the first grade of Crockett Elementary School. Those boys and girls were destined to be the Class of '62. Our teachers that year were Miss Ruth Maxwell and Mrs. Griffin. That year we were impressed by the fact that Miss Ruth had eyes in the back of her head. Mr. Mul- lins was the principal. On the first day of the second grade, we found our teachers to be Mrs. Faver and Mrs. Easterly. Our third grade teachers were Mrs. McClain, Mrs. Barclay, and Mrs. Bynum. In the fourth grade, we began to feel like old hands at this job of going to school. Our teach- ers were Mrs. Schmidt and Miss King. When we finally reached the fifth grade, our teach- ers were Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Mason, who was replaced later in the year by Mrs. Barbee. Mrs. Moore resigned from teaching at the end of the year and to her surprise the students in her class gave her a farewell party. At the beginning of the sixth grade, we found our teachers to be Mrs. Carpenter and Mr. Forque, who also served as band director. Mrs. Carpenter also taught art and she had a wonderful sense of humor. In the seventh grade with Coach Summers and Mr. Johnson as our teachers, we participated in the upperclass activities of grammar school. When we finally reached the eighth grade, Miss Hattie Wooters and Mrs. Caskey were our teachers. That year we were fortunate enough to enter the high school band and had quite a few differences of opinion with the high school seniors. We felt a little sad at the thought of leaving grammar school, but we soon lost it with the anticipation of entering high school. As usual, after graduation we were welcomed into high school by our dearly beloved sen- iors! We will never forget how pretty we looked in our toe sacks. Graduation night we had a graduation party with our own combo. We as fish were proud to enter Crockett High School. Mrs. Deauman and Mr. Eng- lish were our sponsors. We soon elected Jimmy Jones as Class President, Wade Sullivan as Vice-President, and Ann Maples as Secretary-Treasurer. One of the most memorable oc- casions of that year was the Powder Puff Football game which was presented with great suc- cess to raise money for the Freshman-Sophomore party. As silly sophs we voted Johnny Frye President, Linda Knox Vice President, and Gerry Halbert as Secretary-Treasurer. Our sponsors were Mr. Dickey and Mrs. Patton. That year we were very happy to win the senior seats in the contest for the March of Dimes. Our grade was also the Coronation winners. Johnny Frye and Gerry Halbert were crowned king and queen. When we became jolly juniors, we put on the Best Prom Ever. In that wonder- land by night, our officers. President, Wade Sullivan; Vice-President, Gerry Halbert; and Secretary-Treasurer, Ann Maples, led us in the Grand March. We again won the senior seats in the March of Dimes contest. Our sponsors were Mrs. Hazlett and Mrs. Sanders. In our senior year our sponsors are Mr. Dickey and Mrs. Heard. Our officers are; Pres- ident, Troy Williamson; Vice-President, Bert West, and Secretary-Treasurer, Billy Murchi- son. Mr. Stewart and Dr. Ogg have been the heads of our administration for four years. This year for the third time we won the Senior Seats, an activity which shows what class spirit and oneness we have. Graduation is somewhat a sad time, but it is also a happy time or a time of new beginning as it was in grammar school. May the class of '62 always live up to its high ideals, without which we can never succeed. Senior Officers President - TROY WILLIAMSON Vice-President - BERT WEST Secretary - BILLY MURCHISON. ADAMS.
