Presenting Your ’ Yearbook • • • jooijDg jjdyjojj inn Off to You Table of Contents Dedication Administration and Faculty Seniors Juniors Sophomores Freshmen Favorites Organizations Athletics Activities Advertisers Dedication As Advisor to the Bulldog Staff and school librarian, Mrs. R. B. Julian has merited the respect, the admiration, and the sincere gratitude of the students of Crockett High School. For her untiring efforts and lasting friendship, we would like to dedicate this, our 1960 Bulldog, to Mrs. Julian. Superintendent As Superintendent of Schools, I want to say that I am proud of the fine work that has been done by the students of Crockett High School. Because you have always set your sights high and kept your eye on the goal, you have accomplished many things this year. Not only have you proved your ability to achieve scholastically, but you have become well rounded through your out- standing achievements in extracurric- ular activities. This is good because living in a democratic world requires versatility and adaptability. It has been a pleasure to be your Su- perintendent. I am looking forward to continued progress in our schools. This is possible if we all work together. To the Seniors I would like to say that Education is the key to the door of opportunity. ” Use it well. Let this serve as only the beginning of a job well done. Secretary to Superintendent MRS. EXA LEE LUCAS Mrs. Lucas is also Clerical Accountant for the Crockett Schools Athletic Fund, Ralph Bunche Lunchroom, and Crockett Elementary School Cafeteria. Principal As you leaf through this book and relive the 1969-60 School year at Crockett High School I hope that you can conscientiously say that this has been the best school year thus far in your formal education. At the same time I would also hope that you will be inspired to try to make this next year even better. May each of you meet the challenge of each day with a determination that is sure to bring success. Gailen Stewart Secretary' to Principal MRS. Class History We are Crockett High School Seniors of 1960 and it is our graduation night. As we sit in the auditorium anxiously awaiting the presentation of the diplomas for which we have worked twelve years, memories crowd our thoughts and make it difficult to concentrate on the speeches being made. Looking around us, we see the faces of many classmates who have been with us from the very first grade. Other familiar faces are those of friends who have joined us from time to time as the years have quickly passed. How eager and yet how frightened we were as we approached those first grade teachers in 1948, Mrs. Ruth Maxwell and Mrs. Griffin, who were to give us the foundation upon which our later school years were built. Other primary teachers whom we remember with affection are Mrs. Easterly, Mrs. Caskey, Mrs. Bynum, and Mrs. Faver. At the end of the third year, we climbed the first flight of stairs to enter fourth grade. We were now closer to the dreaded principal's office, and our teachers. Miss King and Mrs. Schmidt, expected more of us. Up another flight of stairs we climbed to the fifth grade, where we got our first experience in departmental work. Recess was a thing of the past, but P.E. under Miss Beulah, Mr. Sum- mers, and the other coaches were periods to enjoy. That was the year that Mr. Mullens left us and Mr. Stewart came to be our principal. He was to guide us through the upper grades and to join us again as high school principal for our junior and senior years. As we see him tonight assisting Dr. Ogg, our Superintendent, in the distribution of the diplomas, we are thankful for the kindness which he has shown us on many occasions, when we really needed the board. He was there, too. when we graduated from the eighth grade. That was a proud day for us. Do you remember that Mr. Jordan said that our class had more pupils on the honor roll than any class which he could recall? The home room mothers helped us celebrate with a swimming party followed by supper and dancing at the youth center. With a fond farewell to our junior high teachers, Mrs. Sallas, Mrs. Carpenter, Miss Hassell, Mrs. Wootters, Mrs. Caskey, and others, we left the building in which we had spent eight happy years and entered Crockett High School. When we were foolish freshmen, we found out that high school was not just one continuous party but that there was work, too. We had a grand football season, winning district that year. By selling programs at the junior high games, we made money for the freshman-sophomore party which had an oriental theme. The freshman sponsors were Mrs. Mable Goolsbee and Mrs. Rob- bie Deauman. As sophomores we were the recipients of a wonderful party given for us by the freshmen. The sophomore home room teachers were Mrs. Byron Orand and Mr. S. N. Boykin. At the end of that year we lost our principal and superintendent, Mr. W. L. Jordan and Mr. William Schmidt, who had befriended us so many times during our first two years in high school. Our junior year was spent in making money for the prom. We presented a play which was entitled This Ghost Business. Finally the time came for us to have the prom for the seniors. The theme of the prom was A Southern Garden. We used moss and tumbleweed sprayed pink to produce a very pretty effect. Junior Sponsors were Mrs. Dave Hazlett and Mr. A. H. Sanders. Our senior year was very exciting. Not one of us will forget the day we received our senior rings. We had a winning football team and something new was added to the half time activities, a drill team, the Crockettes, marching to the music of the Bulldog Band. Working on the an- nual and Bulldog Barks kept us busy. The year passed quickly and was climaxed by all of the nice senior parties. Our senior sponsors were Mrs. Reece Heard and Mr. Jimmy Moore. Now we are here tonight receiving our diplomas which certify that we are ready for what the future may bring.
