I hope you will realize that one of the most im- portant results of your education is the ability to make your- self do the task you have to do, when it ought to be done, whether you like the task or not. That is one key to a happy and successful life. We present you with the opportunity to use this key daily. Let us all begin using it more faithfully. Sincerely, BOARD OF EDUCATION Dr. G. B. Lake J. We were divided into two groups with Miss Ruth and Mrs. Lily Jim Moore as our teachers. They soon made us feel at home and even the rumor of Mr. Schmidt's electric paddle didn't seem to scare us much. Miss Ruth”, of course, had eyes in the back of her head. As we were all more than average little boys and girls we advanced to the second grade and spent another happy eventful year under the leadership of Mrs. Frank Driskill and Mrs. Moore, who seemed to be promoted with us. Miss Katy King and Mrs. Ernestine Carpenter had to put up with us during our third year. All the girls had a terrific crush on Richard Huddle, who joined our class that year. It was in this grade that we had our first Citizenship Club, and here it was that we suddenly took a jump to the fourth grade for the twelve year system was adopted. Mr. Schmidt went to high school as principal and Mr. Darsey, our band director, became our new principal. In the fifth grade where we had a different teacher for each subject, it took us some time to figure out the peculiarities and requirements of each teacher. Our homeroom teachers were Mrs. Jack Barbee and Mrs. Carpenter again. We lost Gret- chen Heers and David Lee Porter but were happy to have James Ray Lively join our group. We really learned arithmetic to the tune of the hickory stick. Who could ever forget the time Mr. Mason broke that yard stick on Bob King? Mr. Darsey left us that year, and Mr. S. K. Bright took his place. During our sixth year Miss Hassell and Mrs. Humphreys became our new home- room teachers. Jack Dean Rains, Max Ray Hardin, Betty Jean Haley, and Jack Hurtt were new entries that year. Mr. F. C. Whittlesey had taken Mr. Bright's place as principal. Our seventh year found Mrs. Gertie Sallas as our principal and Mrs. Dorothy King and Mrs. Dorothy Parker our new homeroom teachers. We were happy to wel- come Buddy Ray Ellis, David Ratcliffe, Raymond Jones, and Earlene Mayrant as new members of our group. We felt terribly big taking a First Aid Course under Mrs. Babee. I Mrs. Gertie Sallas and Mrs. Hat+ie S. Wootters were our homeroom teachers during our last year in Elementary School. We shall never forget the jillion theorems, Greek mythology and definitions, to say nothing of the conjugation of verbs, and the million of history dates we tried to learn during this eventful year. Mr. H. V. Standley was principal and new students added to our ranks were Betty Satterwhite, Nelda Parks, Laura Belle Williams, Peggy Wilson, Patricia Parkinson, Marjorie Shaver, and John Vickers. Came graduation day from Elementary School we were very happy to think that we would be in High School the following year. As we entered high school we were a scared group of fish . Our homeroom teachers were Miss Breazeale and Coach Berwick! Upon Coach Berwick's death Coach Simmons became one of our homeroom teachers. Some of the girls almost swooned everytime Coach spoke to them. During this year we learned all about algebra from Mr. Schmidt and what was expected of us in high school. Charles Hallmark, Harry English, Billy Joe Knox, and our Porter Springs friends became members of our class, but at the end of the year we lost Henry Paul, Rebekah Lloyd, Bill Milburn, and Doris Morgan. Then we became silly sophomores , as they called us. Miss Julia Collins and Mrs. J. B. Humphreys were our homeroom teachers. Bobby Beard joined our class that year. When we became jolly juniors , with Mrs. J. W. Martin and Mrs. Mabel Gools- bee as our homeroom teachers Jesse Ruth Stewart, Barbara Jean Hollingsworth, Joyce Grimes, and Virginia Gray joined our class. We honored the seniors with the bestest prom ever given in C. H. S. Now, we are dignified seniors of C. H. S. Our homeroom teachers are Mrs. Churchill and Mr. Stewart. We lost Charles Hallmark this year but gained Jean Maples and R. C. Rich. We are looking forward to the senior plays, our commence- ment exercises, and all the things to come in the future. Yes, this is truly an un- finished history. r RIDt Mtir VIC c lortn :v.ro c ; ilts. ;rocke tarte me age.ln hrillcr a. ir.If ended.
