Failure to plot a course in advance will result in the mission not being accomplished. Our school symbol, the Rocket, signifies direction, purpose and an upward thrust to achieve a higher goal. I sincerely hope that CCHS has provided you with some direction in the 1978-1979 school year, at least enough direction to successfully begin your lives after graduation. As surely as a rocket has a built-in guidance system for its direction, you too must develop a sense of direction. The purpose of CCHS has been and will be to provide you and your children with the knowledge to discover what you want and the basic skills and abilities to attain and keep you desires. CCHS is only the launching pad and the preparation for the flight. It is not the flight. Your stay here will end with a beginning, a commencement, that will launch you on some course. May God’s richest blessing follow you, and give you the needed thrust to live lives with direction and purpose. Your Principal, do aA ij -j- | , i Jmak -t-w 4- A.Y. Hodge, Jr. DEDICATION It is with great pleasure that we, the 1978- 79 Yearbook Staff, dedicate this book to Mrs. Louise Watson. Mrs. Watson graduated from Murray State University with a B.S. and an M.S. in Business. She has taught in the Crit- tenden County School System for 26 years. She has sponsored the school newspaper, the Co-op program, FBLA, and the cheer- leaders. Mrs. Watson is never without a smile on her face or a few kind words to say. Her sense of humor and genuine concern for teaching has made her a favorite among the students at C.C.H.S. We thank Mrs. Watson for the years of dedi- cation that she has given to this school. DURING HOMECOMING WEEK, students en- joyed doing the ‘‘unusual’' On 50's Day, Steve Watson informed us that the ‘‘wet head was not dead iT), and Leshia Kirk made a perfect Sandra Dee (2). Eric LaRue taught his classes with dignity on Crazy Hat and Sock Day (3). After eliminating the Freshmans and Sopho- mores, the Junior and Senior girls went on to clash in the finals of Powder Puff (4). The Jun- iors beat their upperclassmans by a touch- down in triple overtime THE STUDENT COUNCIL sponsored several dances during the year. Rockoon and Union Station entertained the student body at the Homecoming Dances, and Disco Inferno’s trav- eling disc jockey played the top 40 hits for the Valentine Sweetheart Dance. THE DRAMA CLUB, under the direction of Mr. Eric LaRue. presented two Christmas productions for the general public and students of the high school and elementary schools. Greg Arflack enacted the role of Ebenezer Scrooge and Redonna Chandler played the part of his niece in Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol (1). Mr. Fessiwig (Steve Oates) instructed young Ebenezer (Mark Lathem) in the fundamentals of thrifty business (2). Tiny Tim (Aaron Brown) got a ride from his father. Bob Cratchit (Kenny Crider) (3). Scrooge and the Ghost of Christmas Present (Keith Steele) looked on as the Cratchit family toasted the old man's health (4). Two gossipy mourners (Sandy Davidson and Virginia Singleton) discussed Scrooge's death (5). jP FH trtfi The Gatekeeper (Lori Taylor) initiated the Littlest Angel (Rhonda Shouse) into Heaven (1). The Littlest Angel received some heavenly advice oh angelic behav- ior ' from the Prophet (Aaron Brown) (2). The angels enjoyed a laugh when the audience partici- pated (3). Along with all the hard work, the cast took time out for a little fun (4). Santa Claus payed elementary students a visit (5). BODY LANGUAGE . . . ERA? How do you spell relief?” Golly girls, it was just a little burp!” “I just wanna say a few words about a very embarrassing subject — d_____________ I don’t do windows!” ‘‘If you spit one more paper wad in my hair “All right kids — let's put on our cartoon eyes.” ‘‘That’s what you get for kissing electric pencil sharpeners!” “Does anybody have a crowbar?” “Bi§ deal! So you’ve got 3 pieces of gum on your shoes. THE ART OF EXPRESSION JUST RIDING AROUND BEING A TEEN-AGER in a small town such as Marion can have its advantages and disadvantages when it comes to entertainment. One of the favorite forms of entertainment is “riding around’’ which is really simple after one gets the hang of it. First, one must stop by Kwik-Pik for gum and be able to pull out onto Main Street without getting hit. Next, “a rider drives through town honk- ing and waving at friends. (A person experienced in “riding around should be able to hit both of the town's stop lights on green.) One can then circle the Dip or continue on to Burger Queen for a Coke. The second time through town, “a rider” can either drive out by Cruce's Coachman or take a turn on the Potter's Road. Two pieces of gum and a Coke later, one can be- come bored with “just riding around”. Depending on one’s com- pany, a trip to Pilots Knob or a stop to talk to friends can break the mon- otony. i Burger I Queen Kwik-Pik •••• We Rrz Super We ffre Fine... For some this means dressing-up and forgetting their blue jeans (not necessarily their tennis shoes) and putting on their once a year manners. The Prom was held again this year at Ken- Bar Inn. After the banquet, the tables were cleared and couples danced to the music of Leonardo. 157 This was a day to recognize and honor the outstanding accomplish- ments of our student body. Student Council President, Keith Steele, served as master of cermonies. Besides the students, out-of-town guests, civic organization leaders, and several parents attended the program. 4 HONOR’S DAY COMMENCEMENT One hundred and twenty-eight seniors received their diplomas at Commencement exercises. The Valedictorian, Melinda Easley, and the guest speaker, Mark Twain (Bob Valentine), addressed the graduates before a crowded gymnasium. 159 For one year, we, the Class of 79 , earned the right to call ourselves SENIORS.
